surpassing traditional two-finger multi-touch by providing full, 10-finger multi-touch capability."

It's a good thing I read the article, and not just the title. Based on the title, I went into this article thinking, "WTF does anyone need 10 video inputs on a 22-inch for?!?"

Apparently, it's 10-finger touch capable. Not 10 inputs.

Overkill much?? I mean maybe 4 would be a good point but i do not have ambidextrous fingers making anything past 2 thumbs + 2 fingures kinda of worthless. My 2 cents

Multitouch = multiple fingerprints and smudges and grease all over the screen which = annoying to look at and requiring you to constantly clean

multi touch screens don't offer enough precision to do stuff like art work or 3d modeling, it is more suited for stuff like you see done on a iphone, clicking on icons and other large things.

PS while skin can be soft, it does have some friction and that can cause scratches over time, if you look at a heavily used iphone, you will see almost like a sandpaper style fogy scratch on where the finger was slid across many times

multitouch is not good as the act of touching the screen degrades the picture, not good if you want to use the monitor for entertainment...

Hey what is the character on the left side of the screen holding..
nothing, his hand just happens to be in the same place ad the grease smudge on the screen because someone decided to touch the screen....

well can you clean it? yep but this will be the 50th time today I cleaned it......

Why would they add a touch feature to a monitor like this? did they ever think about what happens after the screen is touched?....

No because besiness people are too stupid to think ahead.

[citation][nom]JasonAkkerman[/nom]RS232? What exactly are you going to connect to that?[/citation]

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RS232):

Many fields (for example, laboratory automation, surveying) provide a continued demand for RS-232 I/O due to sustained use of very expensive but aging equipment. It is often far cheaper to continue to use RS-232 than it is to replace the equipment. Some manufacturers have responded to this demand: Toshiba re-introduced the DE-9M connector on the Tecra laptop. Companies such as Digi specialise in RS232 I/O cards.

I am more then familiar with the RS232/485 standards and a number of serial protocols that use it. I work with industrial control systems, and we have a problem of constantly being stuck with legacy technology because it has been proven.

The point of my rhetorical question was to point out that only a few specialized PC's nowadays come with that type of connector. It is such an old standard that it is really surprising to see it on a new piece of hardware.

It would be like shipping a new PC equipped with a 5 1/4 floppy drive.

I wanted 11 inputs! 10 for my hands and one for my ummmm never mind... lol

To be honest 10 is probably great for touch typing or maybe a music mixing ap with sliders. Would also be nice for flight sims (Cant wait to see the crazy set ups people come it with on that one lol)

ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE PRESENT MULTI TOUCH SCREEN TECHNOLOGY

Now, some manufacturers brought out a new type of multi touch screen whose size ranges from 12 inch to larger and can be used on LCD. They all announced that they used the projected capacitive technology. To these, I announce below:

These touch screens can determine the exact location of 2 or more touch points, even can output the touch image. And the external feature of them is similar to the projected capacitive touch screen and the size of them is larger than 12 inch.
The technology applied here is not the projected capacitive as they announced.
It is my technology, a new type touch screen.
My technology detected touch by the variations of electric field: via loading the variations of electric field to the ray (such as ultrasonic or light) instead of conductors, it gets the high SNR and large screen size.
The major difference of the screen s based on my technology to the screens based on projected capacitive technology is that my screen contains the sound or light devices, but the projected capacitive touch screen only utilizes conductor and glass, optical gel.
My technology already has been applied for a patent; the priority date is February, 2008. I already applied for a US patent, and will apply for a Europe patent in the near future.
My patent’s PCT international publication date is august, 2009.
I am both the inventor and the holder of the patent; I have not promised any manufacturer to use the technology. The multi touch screens use the two structures below:

The first one is suit medium or small size screen:
The second one is suit medium or large size screen
If the readers are interested or already manufacturing touch screens which meet above characteristics, I urge you to examine and detect your products in accordance with the display above.
I already got a table pc, the multi touch screen in it is based on my technology, and detected it, and have gotten evidences.
The assumption that the mere presence of acoustic wave generator and receiver from transparent piezoelectric materials and conductors can evident the declaration of the utilization of projected capacitive touch screen technology is wrong and dangerous.
Interested person can detected the acoustic (light) wave or wave generator and receiver in the screen to ascertain whether the touch screen use the technology. Now, contact me is welcome.

I am not excited about touch screen technology. We use Motorola EDA's at work. Cleaning the screens is a problem - expecially if someone had pizza during lunch.

The problem with people is that every time a new technology comes out, they always try to see where it can fit in their Crysis experience. Not everything is for the average consumer folks, other fields need technology too.

All right the self-checkout lanes at your local grocery store will hopefully get speedier, until grandma is in control. Then you may as well go behind the 60 item customer in lane 13.
