Should the full range speaker and surround options be checked when setting up the 5.1 settings?

yes, you want it set to full range speakers or it would cut out the bass (the option is there to prevent issues with small satellite speakers which cannot handle bass).

also, you will not have true 5.1, it would be dolby headphone / cmss3d-sbx or whatever virtual surround you're using. just thought i'd clarify in case the setting windows looked different at all.
