5.1 Side Speakers Aren't Working

My Logitech z506 speakers are having trouble functioning properly. They're about a year old. I have Realtek Audio Manager set to 5.1. I can hear static from all of my speakers, but only the front 2, my center, and the sub are working. The side speakers aren't playing, even in the test function of Realtek.

I accidentally clipped the side right's wire, but I soldered it back together. The side left's wire hasn't been clipped at all. I've also checked all of the plug-ins.

What motherboard and operating system are you using?

I'm guessing your motherboard is in your sig, the P8Z77-V PRO.

Have you upgraded to Win10? Reason i ask is Win10 and Realtek drivers from their site a month or so ago had switched output jacks rears for side pairs. Not sure if Win8.1 was affected as well or if the problem was rectified since the problem a month a go. So it may concern you so try the grey jack i think it is.

You need to go into the Realtek program and assign the speaker jacks to the proper speaker wires. They can be interchanged, and sometimes the computer doesn't detect the speakers right.

FYI.....5.1 is Front, Front, Center/Sub, Rear, Rear....not sides

Alright, I set it to 7.1 instead (even though I have a 5.1) and now all of the speakers work! Thanks for the help!

That doesn't sound right, you've enabled 7.1 allowing for side pairs so essentially your rears are now sides. Games playing in 7.1 you wont hear rears, only sides and will be missing sounds. Do a rear sound test.

Try what i suggested, return Windows to 5.1 and use the grey jack instead, see what you get.

I had the same problem as well.

My 5.1 speakers finally began to work right after switching the green and black plugs in the PC several times (green to gray, black to gray, etc, then back to their correct colored jacks).

It seems that the PC was either not correctly detecting the speakers, or the OS took its time to correctly apply the new drivers. (The problem appeared after I updated to the latest windows 10 drivers. I wasted a couple of hours uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers.) OS: Windows 10; Audio: Realtek

Thanks. switching to grey jack from black solved my side pair/rear speaker problem. now my 5.1 working fine.
