550+ and os isnt really enough to be getting a benefit over your current system, I would recommend spending more around 700-800. This build here will be much more powerful than what you currently are using. I included a decent gpu so you could use graphics acceleration in programs, and if you ever wanted to game this would be a good system for that. I also included a SSD which you will want your OS on, your editing software, and any clips that you are immediately using. Also 1tb of storage will be enough for a little bit, and later down the road you can just purchase another drive.

what is it that makes a video editing set up different than gaming? I have seen systems that are suggested builds for less... And I see parts range in price... Can you give me some sort of idea how this will perform? My laptop limps along and crashes. Would I be better served with 120 gig ssd's and a micro threading processor? I have no benchmarks to compare one to another and don't want to build one or buy one to find out it's a dog... But can't justify spending on an elite system unless I can start charging for the work produced. I don't intend to game on it. My son might, but he can buy those upgrades if wanted...
