Hi,

Bought a new nokia 6340i on ebay to replace my battle scarred old 6340i.
This phone is meant to be used on cingular (hence the cingular insert on
phone). I transferred my phone book to the sim and copied it to the new
phone. The text looks much smaller on the new phone, no biggie, but if
anyone knows how to change it, itd be greatful.

The big problem is trying to use Fast Forward with the new phone. As soon as
I plug it into the FF cradle, I get a text message saying there are serious
problems...call Cingular.

Call Cingular and they say everything looks fine......

Does anyone know whats going on here? Had the same problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

I had problem with my 6340i roaming to AT&T when the Cingular signal was
not as strong as the AT&T signal. This was not noticed until I put
phone in the FF base. I had to turn the phone off, and then restart in
order to get FF to give me a green light.

Some ideas only since I don't have FF:

1) Doesn't FF pull the forwarding number(s) from the phone's phonebook
by name--cf1-3? Maybe it doesn't work from the sim card phonebook--did
you copy the numbers back to the phone's phonebook? If so, maybe it
doesn't like them in both places--maybe delete the copy in the sim card?

2) check under the battery to make sure it really IS a "6340i" and not
the original 6340. Might be a difference--see #3.

3) old software version that didn't support whatever FF needs--phonebook
access and/or forwarding ability? Do a "*#0000#" and post what you
find. No idea what version is needed for FF though--if your original
6340i is working compare versions.

Did you have the ESN changed. The SIM works for the GSM part, but if you get
a TDMA signal, the phone can't be verified unless the ESN is a match.

When you say "the text looks smaller", I assume you mean in the phone book.
Change your phone book view to "Name Only" for the largest display.

You can not change the handset ESN (electronic serial number - TDMA). You
must have Cingular CS update your account with the new ESN. Enter *#06# on
the handset. The ESN will be displayed, along with the IMEI (similar to ESN
but only applies to GSM). Explain to CS that you've changed handsets and
need your account updated with the new ESN.

You have a dual technology handset (GSM & TDMA). Your new handset will not
work on TDMA networks until the ESN change is made to your account. Moving
the SIM will only enable the new handset to function on GSM networks.
