Hurt Locker is an awesome movie, professional critics and the Academy all agree on this and all you whiny pirate supporters won't change the fact that it got 6 Oscars. How many did The Avatar get? The reason it didn't make much money is that people are generally stupid and will rather watch stupid movies like Sex & The City 2 and Prince of Persia (or Jersey Shore for that matter).

1. Make a crappy movie
2. overprice tickets to the movies so consumers choose to pirate
3. upload your movie to Pirate Bay and track all downloads
4. scare consumers into paying 100 times cost of ticket price so they are not taken to court
5. ?????
6. make bank of settlements from a crappy movie

Seems like their new business model if you ask me. Since they can't make any money in theaters due to over priced ticket they want you to pirate so they can bend you over and get their money out of your ass in court and settlements. They don't care about the consumer, just how much money they can bring in.

I mean really? $2500 for downloading a movie? I think the punishment should fit the crime. This is just extortion.

This is ridiculous. The legal fees are going to be outrageous, and they're going to potentially ruin some of these people's lives over A MOVIE. They need to draw the line somewhere. $2500 for a movie is ridiculous. How about they get fined with Theft Under $5000, pay their fines, and get on with their lives.

Not only that but open wireless routers could be to blame. I mean if any of these people live in an apartment how can they honestly say it was them directly. The lawyers are going to have a field day with this, I can't see the studio or the USCG winning this case.

Are you one of those people who read critic reviews before making your "own" judgement when you go watch a movie? You need to understand that reviews from critics are also their "own" opinions. I would rather watch a popcorn, action flick than a boring film any day of the week. Also, you can't say that people are stupid in general because then you are just stereotyping the whole nation. Good luck having people agreeing with you about this topic with that amateur remark.

The problem is the studio isn't looking to win court cases but to intimidate people into paying $2,500 settlements just to avoid paying for lawyers and wasting time in court.

I don't have time to watch bad movies so I usually check what the critics say before setting aside two hours of my time to watch one of the dozens of movies playing at any time. Kind of like when your friends recommend a movie to you, except the critics (and the Academy) usually know better.

I'm sure you would. Enjoy your popcorn.

I'm stereotyping the whole planet. As the late George Carlin said: "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." Half of the population of any country are of below average intelligence, so yeah, people are generally stupid.

As I said, enjoy your popcorn.

Does America have enough space in their jails - you can imagine according to the film studios that a very large (would 80% sound about right) have download some sort of copyright file - that's a lot of people in jail - then who would be left to fight the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, etc, etc. After all which is worst - the murder of millions of innocent people in another land under the term "war" or a downloaded movie? Oh and I don't download movies.

[citation][nom]turbolover22[/nom]Hey, that's my IP address on that list. How'd they get that?? I haven't downloaded anything in years.[/citation]
You know, in one network the same IP can be used by many different users.

[citation][nom]flachet[/nom]Any EOD tech yanking on a 105mm shell connected with detonator cord that is buried in sand should be hung for stupidity. It was too much BS to be anything close to good. The plot sucked, the acting sucked and the fact that everything he did was about as opposite from proper ordinance disposal as you can get sucked. I'm pretty sure that any EOD tech I worked with that acted like that would be sectioned 8 immediately. Granted with movies you have to have some leeway, it can't be full on realism, but geez, at least make is somewhat believable.Regarding the Oscars, I don't equate an Oscar win or nomination with good.[/citation]

Did you not notice that he wasn't supposed to be insane? He was deliberately portrayed as a somewhat crazy, and troubled character. I'm not praising the movie, but there WAS a reason for what he did.

You have to prove that the people stole it. They can't given the ease with which computers can be hacked/botted/etc not to mention faking IPs. If somebody steals your car and uses it to steal TVs they can't prosecute you, unless they can prove you were a willing participant.

If you get this letter, back-up, reformat and when you go to court, "Judge I became badly infected with malware, and several weeks ago even had to reinstall my OS."

I wouldn't say Hurt Locker is any better than Avatar, it sucked too. All Avatar was, is a remake of Dances with Wolves based in the future. If they would have thrown Kevin Costner in there, it would have been Dances with Wolves 2.

Hurt Locker had great explosions and action..yay.

Avatar had a great look to it...yay.

Maybe that is enough for people to call a movie great, but personally, and with a bunch of my friends, more is need to make a movie great, or epic.

[citation][nom]karenskym[/nom]Dynamic IPs anybody?[/citation]

DSL doesn't change that often and I'm sure the logs tie the MAC address of your modem to your IP address so depending on time/day that the file was downloaded they can track it down fairly quickly. Not sure what the current log retention is but I'm guessing it's substantial.
