710 volume Motorola

Heard this phone has poor volume in hearing the person you are talking to.
Any comments?

It should have very good volume. The problem is the "sweet spot" on the ear
piece is not where you assume it is. What feels like the appropriate
physical placement of the earpiece actually puts the speaker above your ear
canal. As a result, you have to move the ear piece down to a position lower
than normal on other phones to get the correct position. It's a bit of a
pain at first but you get used to it.

Had a tiny 'sweet spot' on my T720.
Disassembled it and drilled out the plastic in front of the audio
speaker. Now it works great!

The Motorola V400 on Cingular had the earpiece slots running vertically,
hence no sweetspot. All the Verizon Motorolas have horizontal slots,
therefore a limited vertical hearing position. They must be placed more
precisely on the ear. Wish they would use the earpiece design like the V400.
Much easier to use.

Overall I'd say its louder than my 730. Now it's no StarTac which is still
the loudest phone ever made even great sidetone.

there is a firmware update for the 710 which should adress the earpiece volume-
heard this straight from a motorola rep. I believe they said late this
december/early in the year

How can firmware fix a problem that doesn't exist. What is the firmware
going to do? Cut a bigger earpiece slot?

Maybe it will increase the volume for phones experiencing the problem.

although perhaps it is not a 'problem', I was told directly by a motorola rep
that this was the case, apparently to increase to earpiece volume.
you have to admit, it is lower than the lg and samsung phones. for a person
with diminished hearing, it could be a prob.
