I'm thinking of upgrading from my Sanyo 4900 dual mode phone to a tri-mode
phone.

What is the coverage of the third mode 800 CDMA?

Is this coverage Sprint or roaming coverage?

What do I have to gain from a tri-mode phone?

Thanks,

Evad

Much of Verizon's CDMA system is 800 mhz. Much more digital roaming will
open up with the latest PRL (10023-10024 coming soon).

The ability of making calls while out of SPCS's coverage area.

Yes.

As mentioned the majority of Verizon's system is 800 digital, and unless
Larry in the Verizon newsgroup pipes in (which I doubt), you will find 800
digital more preferable to 800 Analog.

Whadaya mean "yes"... none of it is Sprint coverage. It would all be
roaming coverage unless Sprint has started to acquire 800 MHz networks. :p

Genrally that will allow digital roaming on the Verizon Network where
Sprint has arranged for it.

And on Alltel, in all those states in the middle of the country where
Alltel is the CDMA cellular carrier (and on which VZW customers also
roam). Or US Cellular, in even fewer states. Digital roaming means
longer battery life and more secure calling than analog roaming.

There is far more than just Verizon that uses 800MHz CDMA. There are
several in Minnesota alone (Midwest Wireless is a well known one) and there
are some bigger regional players like Altel. Your generallization was a
little too general :)
