Is 850.00 USD for this Macbook Pro version a good deal?

it depends. if you like the aesthetic then yes, if you want hassle free osx installation then yes.
if your not bothered about either then look at another laptop brand and put hackintosh on it.

core i5 is a good cpu regardless. your unlikely to be able to do heavy gaming
but for productivity and media osx is nice.

I bought a 2008 15" MacBook Pro and put Yosemite on it. Cost me $200. $850 is overpriced for a 13" 2012 MacBook Pro. Just check eBay and see what similar models sold for. Now a 15" would be a good deal at that price.
