my laptop was dropped and broke recently, fortunately it's covered on home insurance. the insurance company i'm assuming have a deal with fujitsu siemens and are offering me a fujitsu-siemens laptop to replace my broken one. however, i'm not sure that the replacement they are offering is as good as my old one, which was really only -just- good enough for my purposes. most of the specs are similar, but i'm not sure about the graphics card

Old laptop: Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS (256mb)
New laptop: Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS (256mb)

i'm not certain but i believe that the 9300 is not as good as the 8600, but i'm a bit confused because of Nvidia's strange naming conventions :p can anyone please advise?

Easiest way to think about NV's naming scheme is by the second number.

3/4's represent integrated or low end. ie: 9300 GS or 9400 GS
5/6's represent the midrange like your 8600
8's represent the highend/gaming class.

Even though the 9300 is a newer card, NV didn't change much so your current 8600 will still be the better card.
