A question about gaming laptops

Hello, I am currently considering a possibility of buying a gaming laptop (as my desktop PC can barely run any games and I will go to college in a few months) and I have noob questions, since I've never had any laptops before. Can gaming laptops run new games (such as the witcher 3 and Arkham Knight) on the highest settings? Will I be able to do so if I connect the laptop to a 23 inch screen (1920*1080 resolution)? If the answer depends on the laptop, let's take Asus ROG G751JY as an exmaple (one of the strongest gaming laptops atm I think) and the slightly weaker LENOVO Y50.
Thanks!

Highest settings? Possible, but do not expect desktop like performance. Laptop graphic chips do not perform as well as desktop GPUs because they must laptop graphic chips must consume less power than their desktop counterparts. They also need to generate less heat due to limited cooling possibilities within a laptop chassis.

Batman Arkham Knight is currently experiencing severe performance issue. It is so bad that Warner Bros. decided to temporarily stop selling it on Steam until the problems are resolved. How well will the game performance after patching is anyone's guess.

The link below has benchmarks for the GTX 980m it certainly does provide good performance.

The GTX 960m can play some games at 1080p, but not all games especially if you want something much higher than 30 FPS.

If you are willing to spend a lot of money then yes, they can play all the games at the ultra settings assuming it is in 1080p.

But I personally wouldn't get one if I were you as they loose their value very quickly and become outdated.
