Absolute BEST Gaming/Multimedia Laptop Under $1500

Mar 8, 2012
If you had $1500 to spend on a laptop, what would the best choice be? PREFERABLY, a 15.6" display.

I will definitely be gaming with it, but I don't need it to play every game out there at max settings, that's what my desktop is for. I would like to be able to play just about anything at at least medium settings though, and some at high. I've been browsing for a while.

My first choice was going to be the lower end Lenovo Y50 model, but I've heard a lot of complaints about the display being underwhelming. This is a BIG deal for me. I want something with a very nice display. There is however a touchscreen version :

I haven't been able to get a straight answer as to whether this display is better than the non-touchscreen version.

There are also the MSI 15.6" gaming laptop the Apache, and the ASUS ROG :

This seems to be what many are saying is the best bang for your buck, but I have a few problems with it. First it's a little too "bulky" looking for my taste. I know this is a minor gripe, but when I'm paying over a grand I can be a little picky. I'm also just not too keen on the overall look, but I will concede that performance is most important.

Than there's the Asus N550JK : http://www.amazon.com/N550JK-DB74T-Full-HD-Touchscreen-Laptop-Aluminum-Body/dp/B00LO3K002/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1421362062&sr=1-6&keywords=15.6+gaming+laptop#productDetails

This one is hands down my favorite in the looks department, and is a powerhouse spec wise. My only complaint here, is that the GPU is slightly less powerful than the cheaper models below it, as it's not specifically a gaming laptop. The gpu is also built into the mobo, so upgrading is not an option.

Last night I stumbled upon a 4k version of the Lenovo Y50, with very tasty specs :

4th Generation Intel Core i7-4710HQ (2.50GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB Graphics Card / Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160
16.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz / Bluetooth Version 4.0
512 GB Solid State Drive / Windows 8.1 / No Optical Drive

The main complaint I see people mention is that most apps don't run well at 4k yet, but this isn't a hardware problem, and setting the resolution to 1080 works great.

There could be plenty that I'm missing that fits this budget, and that's why I'm posting this.

If you had $1500 to throw down on a multimedia laptop right now, what would it be?

I will list what I value most in order ; Performance, Screen Quality, Reliability, Look/ Feel of the laptop. I don't want anything too bulky or bricky looking.

So please help out anyway you can guys, and thanks :D

hello there i myself was looking at the MSI GE62 its a 15 inch laptop has multi color back lit keyboard by steel series its a newer 2015 model here is a link for some info

now Razer makes some thin gaming laptops but the problem with that is though is cooling so some of those big or bulky laptops you dont like are because they have better cooling which if your gaming is a must i have heard several complaints about the asus g750 and g751 models as the previous guy said xoticpc.com has several options and they are customized to order also checkout ibuypower.com they offer customized to order laptops hope this helps
