Hello,

This problem has persisted for about 6 months for my parents older laptop, so they asked me to find a solution. They have an ACER Aspire 3680. The manufacturer's battery died about a year ago, so they stopped using the laptop for awhile. My father purchased a new OEM battery at a computer store that was compatible based on the battery # for their model. He installed the battery turned on the computer with the AC adapter plugged in. After boot, the battery icon said "No battery found". It will still run with AC adapter plugged in, but powers off immediately if the AC adapter is removed. Any help would be appreciated :)

More than 90% of all the components are on the motherboard for a laptop. To know for sure why the battery is not charging, you said that the error the laptop gives you is "No battery found", the cause of the error maybe that the battery is not compatible with your laptop. You have inside the battery a printed circuit board who communique to the EC chip, if the EC don't recognize the informations, then an error No battery found is given. You can check the contacts on the laptop for the battery to see if they are clean.

I checked ACER's website and other sites for the battery numbers that were compatible. I am certain that the batteries are compatible. I had read in other forums as well as this one regarding something about a driver update. I also read that there is something in laptop hardware that charges the battery. If the problem is hardware related, I obtain a quote for that repair or will buy a new laptop. Thanks for your suggestion. Do you have any others or could you explain this hardware charger component or driver install to me? :)

What might cause a charging problem from a hardware standpoint? Would you please explain that to me? I might be able to fix it myself if I know which piece may need to be changed.

The reason of a hardware problem could be many things, heat, wear, weld, the real problem is to find the faulty component. After the component found, you must find to buy and you have to removed and replaced the faulty component, involving the solder.

What is the component in laptops that charges the battery: is it part of the mother board or a separate component? Thank you for your help so far JAROTECH! I really need more details about this though, so I can better understand the possible hardware issue. If you will explain this is more detail, I'll give you the best answer on this thread :) That goes for anyone else that can help, as well!

Thank you for your detailed answer. It will help me better explain to the repair specialist what could be wrong so that they don't waste their time on other things. What would you recommend to clean the contacts on the battery?
