I have an Acer 5110 bought for myself but given to my 10 year old grandson because he was broken hearted as all his elder brothers had one!!

Anyway after a year and a half I find that its stopped working, no display visible but operation OK with a spare VGA montor seems to tell me something.

First I buy an invertor and replace, No Change. Then I buy a second hand screen and install, No Change

Next was to clean out the 'screen closed switch' as reccomended by some on this site. Still No Change

Where do I go from here? any sugestions would be most helpfull, even if enough say sling it into a skip!

Please help an old guy (71) who's getting past diagnosis but can still manage repairs

It sounds like it could be something faulty with the graphics chip and/or the motherboard itself if you have replaced both the inverter and screen. My guess is that there is an issue with a connection from the GPU to the screen on the motherboard. If I were in your position, I'd probably think about scrapping it or looking into getting the motherboard replaced.
