Hi everyone,

I'm an Engineering student and am considering which netbook would be most suitable for my needs. Initially I was very "anti-netbook" but I'm sick of lugging around my 3kg+ laptop.

My main uses:
Basic Word/Excel whilst running firefox (7 tabs) and spotify/WMP.

OR MatLAb 2009; HD Youtube and playing 720p/1080p HD files locally.

Gaming isn't a priority.

Recently, the Acer Aspire 532g was slated for April '10 UK release with an Atom N450 and ION2 (promising 1080p playback and HDMI out), I'm worried that the singlecore Atom won't be able to handle multi-tasking Word/Firefox/Spotify or run Matlab without crashing.

As an alternative, I have looked at the Acer AS1410 and it runs the SU3500, which is more powerful.

Would the Aspire 532g be suitable for my needs? Are there any other alternatives more suitable or should I wait for a dualcore Atom netbook?

Thanks!

I'd spend the extra cash and go with the AS1410 to ensure you can get the most out of it. I don't think a single core atom will be able to handle HD, 7 tabs in firefox, etc.. in an efficient and quick manner.
