Acer aspire one external speakers

Hello, externals speakers don't work with my Aspire one. The headphones work just fine, but spekers don', regardless of whether they have an external power source or not. Is there a setting I don't know about? The manual sounds like they should just plug & play.

What kind of external speakers? USB speakers? If so, then yes, just plug & play...
have you tried on different laptop or PC?
