acer aspire shuts down after 5 seconds

Power light comes on for a few seconds and I hear the fan then it shuts down then comes back on and does the same thing over and over. Its brand new out of the box! Can't get it to stay on long enough to get it to boot up. Acer said the battery needed charging for 7 hrs. Took battery out to just run off power and it still does the same.

I'll suggest returning the laptop to the vendor for exchange or refund, sounds very much as though it's faulty. A weak battery situation would make the computer turn off, not go into a reboot loop

I also had this problem. I have checked all components including hdd,RAMs MB ,power & processor .But at last I found the problem. It was with laptop's power switch. So i repaired it.Then it is ok.No automatic shut down. you can check this problem by removing your power switch connector from mother board and power it on with the help of some piece of conductor(short circuiting the power switch on mother board).

if you have the type of connector you cant jump, turn on the Notebook and then unplug the power button module quick. worked for me too. there was the most microscopic bit of corrosion on the board and wouldnt have found it if i didnt test that part first

Thanks for the "check the power button" tip. I had recently put a SSD in my wife's Aspire v5 and a couple weeks later it exhibited this issue. In my case, I pulled up the keyboard, disconnected the power button ribbon cable from one of those flip up bar type connectors on the MB, re-seated the cable and closed the connector. Problem solved. I guess I hadn't seated it correctly when I put the machine back together. It was fine at first, then it worked it way just loose enough...

My friends Acer Aspire 5750G laptop started for a few seconds but then stopped and switched off. And holding ALT-F10 nor anything else helped to solve it.
But repeatedly shorter or longer holding the Power button pressed in at those first seconds helped to restore the laptop.
It took a couple of hours and a few times repeating this process until it now finally is restored to its fast and normal Boot. And made it possible in the end to activate the right menu restore options.

This solution was nowhere given on the internet or elsewhere and somehow is the only way to solve a bricked laptop that keeps switching off after only seconds up to the moment where the Windows logo popped up. And the same mad thing happened when the Setup F2 menu was selected. Strange enough now only the F2 setup function is disabled somehow after this great fix. The problem started after his power adapter cable was causing sudden Windows switch off problems with an already bad battery.
