Solved! Acer laptop screen is black when I turn it on

When I turn my Acer Aspire 7250 laptop on the screen stays black, I tried hooking it up to a monitor and nothing, the blue indicator light comes on and you can hear it trying to start but the blue light won't come on if the laptop isn't plugged into the charger. We also upgraded to Windows 10 about 2 years ago. Can someone please help?

Try taking the battery out for a few minutes then placing it back in.
