acer v5 571 headset/mic jack

I want to make calls using the computer, but this only has one jack whereas I have a headphone with mic and headset jacks. So, I bought a splitter to use. But now only the headphone works. it does not seem to capture voice from the mic. It gives out weird incomprehensible voices. I used the headset and mic individually with the inbuilt jack on computer and it works fine. I recorded to make sure the headphone and mic and working fine. Is there a problem with jack?

Are you sure it doesn't have pink and turquoise ports on the PC; perhaps round the back?

You could buy a USB external sound device and just use the onboard sound card for calls where the quality matters less.

Hi, I bought the sound card which has the same problem as I had with the splitter. Mic does not work but headphone does.
