Im planning to add 1x8gb sodimm ram to my laptop with an onboard 4gb. Existing onboard ram is a DDR4 2400 4GB. Im planning to add the DDR4 2400mhz GSkill Ripjaws 8gb.

Laptop is Asus Vivobook X442UF with 1 slot vacant. It says it supports up to 12gb. Should I go with my original plan or Ill be better installing 4gb instead?

as long as your computer supports differential ram should work but I would find out and match brands. make 8 gb first ram chip and 4 gb 2nd too. I have had laptops work with differeing brands but flaky. should be able to see what other ram is and match it for manufacturer
