After you set the resolution correctly you will still find that the TV probably overscans the picture. All TV do this since they assume you seeing a blank line is worse than losing a small amount at the edges of the TV where nothing much happens. Computers monitors are the reverse since a lot goes on at the edges.
Some TVs have a menu setting to turn the overscan off. Might be in the regular menu or the service menu (which usually requires a procedure to access,) If you can find the service manual for your set that might help.
