I was wondering if I can restore the squares in the background of a layer.

It's years since I used it but is there an Undo option in the Edit menu?

Are you wanting a transparent layer? Did you accidentally paint over that layer? With that layer selected have you tried erasing what is on there? You could create a duplicate of that layer just in case something goes wrong .

It worked with the magic eraser.
