I plan on getting a gaming laptop soon, and i am kind of set on an alienware 17 r3 since i have always wanted an alienware product. I am looking to spend between 1500 and 2300 dollars on something that will last awhile and run anything new coming out. Currently i play things like league, witcher 3 , fallout 4 , WOW, and so on. I have read mixed reviews about alienware, from they are actually great to they suck. So i come and ask here is it worth buying one of the 17 r3 systems.

I had two laptops alienware M17xR, M17xR3. In both cases the CD player stopped working. Drivers in laptops are usually bad. The laptop is visually beautiful but think there are better brands and models in the United States or other countries to buy laptops to play. And personally I recommend you spend the same on a PC, they are much cheaper and more powerful, the drivers are much better for those computers. If you want to take the laptop to play anywhere you can search on:

https://www.originpc.com/
http://www.razerzone.com/

Some of these you may like but again, a desktop PC is infinitely better.

I deffinitly agree with you that the desktop PC is the way to go in terms of power and price, i built one last year and it has been working out great for me. I am looking to get something to let me play and do schoolwork while im away from my desktop though and even if it is expensive i am wanting to get the best bang for my buck in the price range above for a gaming laptop.

Then check this 3, if you only want a alienware, try to not buy a SLI/Xfire configuration. Drivers on laptop make blue screens a lot of times cos the drivers do not support multi GPU on laptops or keep your A00 base video driver or try to update, but in your own risk...good luck. M17x need a huge backpack hahaha,

Though not comprehensive and completely subjective, here is a good place to start The Best Gaming Laptops of 2015 (PCMAG)

I think you will be fine buying an Alienware 17 R3...

In reference to opinions about Alienware, they are owned by Dell, a company that overall hasn't had the best of reputations over the years. Do your comparisons, possibly consider other brands (Origin, MSI, ASUS). I know you want an Alienware but don't be blinded by the brand and not consider the competition. Another company might offer better quality products, specs or even a better value.

The second most important factor to consider: Aside from the hardware / design itself, the single most important thing I would consider when spending $1500 to $2000 on a gaming laptop is the kind of Warranty / Support you will be getting. These things can fail, they are subjected to immense heat, constant abuse (from misuse or regular use) and accidents (being they are mostly portable). Being able to get your investment fixed and you back into the game is important.

I hope I've offered a little help.

No thats exactly why I came here to ask first, thanks for the suggestions. I have been looking at the ORIGIN laptops since you guys suggested it and they are looking good how is their customer service, as for ASUS, I try to stay away since I have had bad experiences with their customer service.

The Alienware 17 did redeem the Alienware brand however, these are normally overpriced and does not give the best bang for your buck.
With the price range that you have given you can get so many way better gaming laptops.Check these out.
