Alienwre m17x lags since OS reinstall

I have an M17 x r2 alienware. It was running fine but I was on the original OSfactory install for years I deceided to reinstall the os. Since reinstall BF3 lags so bad its unplayable. It has dual 4870 gcards crossfire with 13.0 driver. Installed all chipset and other drivers. My ping in the server was 22 and it seems like hardware lag although the only thing that changed was the OS reinstall HWINFO shows proc and GPUs at normal temps. Any ideas?

Have you tried booting from resource cd and run a hard drive test?it might be a hdd failutre.when was the last time you tested the game before re installing the OS?Also try and run diagnostic.

I ran the alienware diagnostic but did not get any valuable information. Everything seems ok. Initially I reloaded the OS with the alienware disk but the install seemed screwey. When I would load into windows 7 pro and it made the sound (after login) it sounded stutter so I then installed from a usb stick from an iso and entered the CD key. Everything else seems to run fine except battlefield 3. Movies play fine and the game runs its just un-playable. I was thinking about buying a SSD for this anyway so I guess ill start there and probably endup taking it apart and inspecting thermal paste and all that jazz :s. Ill lets ya know what happens. I would try and change the hdd first to see if anything changes.is it lagg only during bf3 or also in other games?

Well I haven't tried any other games. Since it was a fresh OS install I just installed BF3. I mainly use the laptop as a backup or secondary computer so tat friends that come over can play bf3 with me. I mainly use my desktop for bf3. However, the one thing I do know s that it was playable before the reinstall of the OS so my first guess was that it was driver/software related. I know the drivers are correct and nothing additional has been installed. Im wondering if the reinstall corrupted or revealed bad sectors on the disk or if one of the video cards/paste went bad at he same time that I decided to reinstall. Guess I just need to get the new HD asap so I can rule that out if it doesn't correct the issue.
