I have an Amazon Fire box which has input from the internet. This works fine. The output from Amazon Fire box is HDMI which also works fine to my Smart TV. But I want to hook-up the Amazon Fire to my projector (without involving the TV) which has an HDMI input. This works great to project the picture, but the projector has no speakers, and no other output. I'm guessing then that the audio is also coming from the Amazon Fire through the HDMI output. I also have a pair of old Aiwa speakers which if possible I'd like to utilise (either as a pair or singly) - if not I obviously need a different option. The Aiwa speakers though only have old classic 2-core speaker wire, and no separate power, so I'm guessing the power would have come down the speaker wire too (from my now dead Aiwa stereo system). I'm thinking can I get an HDMI splitter (1 female input, 2 female output). Then the HDMI output from Amazon Fire comes into the splitter, with one splitter output to the projector, and the other splitter output to subsequently be 'converted' to send the audio down the 2-core to the Aiwa speakers. Any solutions gratefully received...thank you

Solution
You don't need a splitter (passive HDMI splitters don't work anyway).
If you get an HDMI input selector with audio extraction that will give you an audio output.
You will need an amp to drive the speakers too,

The volume control will need to be in the amp since the output of the switcher will be fixed volume.

Dear Americanaudiophile. Thank you so much for your speedy response. So goalposts have changed! Decided the Aiwa speakers are too big for the space (though their sound output is rather splendid!) Is there such a thing as a speaker (may just need the one because I only need a simple solution) with its own power and with an HDMI socket that can receive the audio directly from the HDMI splitter from the Amazon Fire ?
