[citation][nom]Proxy711[/nom]Only problem i have with the ad is the guy. He doesn't have thick rimed emo goggles, doesn't look like a pompous ass, isn't drinking starbucks coffee, and doesn't respond to the girl with some sort of idiotic regurgitated apple zombie statement that somehow justifies his reason for buying all apple products.Other then that great ad.[/citation]

Speaking of a pompous ass...

I don't own an iPad but I do own a MacBook Pro. I also own a ThinkPad, a BlackBerry, and a custom assembled gaming PC. Never knew all this stuff about myself though. Thanks for pointing it out.

[citation][nom]ericburnby[/nom]I bet Apple loves all these competitor ads making fun of their products. What's really funny is all the haters who think these ads are great. Problem is, they don't understand what's really going on.Anyone in advertising knows that when competitors are making these types of ads that you must be doing something good. Really good. Nobody makes these ads about companies who are struggling or having difficulties selling. Only companies at the top who are very successful get this type of attention.[/citation]

It's not so much that they're doing something really good, but that their product has a greater market share than that of its competitors. Making more money does not translate to having made a good product or having done a good service.

wow lotsa apple hate here, lemme throw in my two cents. Their business model is voodoo magic(a fad) for quite a while their computers where inferior to everybody else on the market, and the more that people realize that the more they will want to go see a witch doctor and take some placebos(ahem sorry acai berry.)

So you admit that Apple is struggling in the desktop market because it's mac vs pc ad.

So exactly why did you buy macbookpro?

Much as I like trashing the iPad, this is an ongoing problem for all mobile PCs (and desktop displays too in the wrong lighting conditions). I find shiny screens incredibly frustrating and would never buy one again. Manufacturers and their customers should care far more about how the picture on the screen looks in real-world conditions and stop caring about how it looks powered down in a showroom. This is especially annoying when you're buying stuff online and the rertailer/seller doesn't state that the product is shiny.

Perhaps if more people RMA'd upon discovering their screen was impossible to use in anything except total darkness...

The summer is over at least in the Northern hemisphere (bad timing). And not everywhere is in Miami or Greece, so sun may not be a real problem for many people of USA and Europe. Just a thought...

[citation][nom]decepticon[/nom]Should have had the guy give up on reading and just use it as a reflective tanning screen. Now that would have been a good ad.[/citation]

That's actually what I was expecting when I hit play. I was a bit let down by the ad's blandness.

Amazon definitely has a point. The new kindle is by far the best in e-reading experience. They are just targeting at that point. For browsing and other multimedia stuff, there is no competition.

There was a guy in the ad? I will have to go back and watch it again...

Agreed. Love my Samsung LEDTV, but the glossy screen makes me watch the yard during daytime rather than a (dark) movie for instance. Annoying!

In general, the good and bad thing about the Ipad is that, while it can do a lot of stuff, it doesn't really do any of it even AS good as a lot of other products on the market. Other than the touchscreen minigames, of course, for what that's worth. The tablet form-factor is about the only thing it has going for it, so if you aren't planning on using it as a TABLET device (it's not even really a computer...) than buy something else. IMO, netbooks are much easier to use as a lightweight business tool, (emailing, opening documents, etc.,) and e-readers are actually meant for e-books. Heck, if you know where to shop, you can get both a netbook AND and e-reader for the price of an Ipad.
