AMD ii x2 550 unlock Which program gives you cpu temps after unlock?

Hmm currently i have my x2 550 at 1.39v @ 3.6ghz
and my Gskill ddr2 1066 ram running at 800mhz @ 2.0 v
Cpu Cooler zalman cnps 9700

If i were to unlock my other two cores and push my ddr2 ram to run at their real speeds of 1066 would i feel a difference? should i also oc and unlock all the other 2 cores and oc to 3.6ghz? The only thing im worry about is.. the heat and the lack of ability to monitor its temps. another question by unlocking the cores does that mean that the cpu now draws in 125w? versus its 80w

or should i oc it to 3.8ghz? whats a good cpu temp when its on load?


I was also curious on which Program gives you accurate Cpu temps after unlock cause i heard alot of programs doesn't give you any cpu temps or accurate temps after you unlock.

also should i have cool and quiet off?

I dont know where you got the idea that you can suddenly turn a dual core into a quad, but it doesn't work like that. There are a very few triple cores that have disabled 4th cores, but even most of those aren't unlockable.

The majority of temperature monitoring software is vague at best, don't look to it if you're trying to get accurate readings.

Ilive the OP was talking about the Phenom x2 550BE which can be unlocked to get 2 extra cores (do your research first)

@OP You need to know first that unlocking the x2 550 is not guaranteed, its a 50/50 chance. Also, before you OC, you need to install an after-market cooler. Trying to OC with the stock cooler is very dangerous since Temp can reach above 60c(the max you cpu is supposed to be) very easily.

speedfan is a good tool to monitor your comp.s temps and control fans.

If your temps load with dual core under 50 then when you unlock it, load will not be past 60~. If it's over 50C, Don't try to unlock it. Also the only way you can measure temperatures easily is to touch the heatsink or use a laser thermometer

@OP, you can't read the individual CPU cores once you've unlocked the other cores. But, you can still get the overall CPU temperature and that's what you have to go by.

Before you unlock, try to get readings of both the CPU and Core#0 and Core#1 ( using everest ) and try to establish the gap between them. In my case, I got X3 720BE and when on its lock status, I was able to establish that Cores are lower than the CPU temp by a few degrees.

When I unlocked, the core readings are just "0" so I estimate the their temperature by subtracting the offset by from the CPU temperature ( which fortunately is still there).

i to have the 550 be chip unlocked it and i am now runnning it at 3.6 ghz first thing make sure to get a after market cooler like a zelman 9700 or the 9900 because the temps do go up a bit,when just running 2 core temps idle heat was 26c running both cores at 3.6 but when i unlocked the cores and overclocked to 3.6 idle temps went up to 30 to 31c at idle and 45c to 48c load so make sure u get a good cooler and to if u unlock turn back your overclock to the 3.2 or so to make sure u are not to hot to fast if temps are good then try to overclock the unlocked cores
