Amplifier potentiometer problem

I have problem with potentiometer on amplifier. I don't know amp model, because it is homemade amp. How do I know that the strength of the potentiometer is needed for that amp?

It may have a resistance printed on it. If it is not open, you could disconnect it from the rest of the circuit and check it with an ohm meter.

Just to add to that,when you determine the resistance and come to buy the pot you will need a log one not a lin as it is a volume control.
