An alternative to Windows OS in a PC

It's a simple question.Which operative system you choose to run in a personal computer, besides Microsoft Windows of course.The reason why i'm placing this question i'm simply fed up with constant updates,the fact Microsoft doesn't treat me like a client but as a servant of this corporation,where i'm "obliged"to use their products because i really don't have a choice.Any thoughts guys?

Linux Mint, not too much of a learning curve from Windows GUI.

I run a dual boots between windows 10 and Ubuntu on my laptop, my desktop depend on my needs (removable boot drives)
Windows 10, 8.1, 7, XP. as well as Linux; Mint, Ubuntu, RedHat, and for fun Haiku (aka BeOs), FreeDos as well as the less known eComStation.

If you wanna game with your PC, you won´t have a real alternative to windows.

Following on from that and if you are a gamer, you can have the best of both worlds.

Leave Windows where it is and use a Linux system on a thumb drive. Press F12 or whatever to choose which drive to boot from and you can use Linux most of the time and Windows only when you really need it.

You can then cross backup from each system to the other to ensure your data are always safe.
Rufus makes a good job of making a bootable USB drive.

For now, i'm not in a hurry to remove Windows from my laptop.However the answers i've been reading 'Syllable Desktop' caught my attention for it's simplicity,clean cut design, very user friendly and most important, quite fast to run on any computer no matter how old it is.
The computer in question is my laptop Acer Aspire 5315 who is already reaching 10 years of service. so if anyone wants to make a suggestion,please do.

You are not playing games on that laptop anyway. The constant Windows updates are most often to fix security issues, they are not really bad. Although some updates can break working drivers.

Get a solid state drive for your laptop and install Linux on it if you don't want to use Windows. Linux will do pretty much anything Windows can aside from being a good platform for games.

I've been reading a lot of articles about this and simply most of them-if not all-agree that Linux or anything related to Linux,is preferable due to large support that it gets from software developers.
Like i mentioned before,Syllabe seems quite what i'm looking for however,if this platform doesn't pan out the way i want it's Linux instead.
So i'll pick your answer as the solution.
