An ethernet cable will not work with my laptop. This cable works with another computer, so the cable is okay. A different ethernet cable works with my laptop, so the laptop is okay. Every time I try to connect the first cable to the laptop there is no recognition, no blinking light at the laptop or router.
What could the problem be?

Thanks for the quick replies. They both have similar standards: the one that doesn't work is 5E 4PR-ETL TIA/EIA 568B The one that does work is:cat 5 UTP TIA/EIA.
I only tried to use the cable recently so no it has never worked with the laptop.
And yes I tried a different port with the same result.

I think the cable that does not work is a crossover cable. If you put the two ends side by side and look at the colors of the wires, the colors of one of the ends do not correspond from left to right at the colors of the other end.

Reference.

The baffling thing is that I am using this cable now with my desktop to write this answer, but for some reason it won't work in my laptop. I think the port in the laptop is a little bit off and will accept 1 cable but not another.
Thanks for the help but I can't think of anything else to try.
