[citation][nom]Vladislaus[/nom]Could you please multiply 1280 x 800 (which is the resolution used by all Samsung Galaxy Tabs, and by tons of android tablets) by two! That's right it's 2560 x 1600. It's aspect ratio is also a lot closer to the ones used in smartphones, so it's easier to convert apps from smartphones to tablets.[/citation]

How has the resolution of an Android tablet got ANYTHING at all to do with Apples decision to pick 2048 x 1536?

The answer: it doesn't.

Once again, your complete failure to read or understand basic concepts surfaces.

Lets take 'vladislaus' on a little journey, shall we?

Step 1 - Man says that iPad is lower resolution because they don't make their own panels.
Step 2 - I explain why they APPLE made the decision they made.
Step 3 - Enter Moron A, who starts talking about Android resolutions?

That moron, is you.

[citation][nom]frostyfireball[/nom]Android kills this by being resolution independant. This way manufacturers such as Samsung, Motorola, etc can make the resolution whatever they want and applications will look fine. Looks like iOS devs got the shaft, they need to develope for 320p, 640p, 768p, and soon 1536p. Android devs write once for Tablet and Smartphone each[/citation]

Resolution independence is the problem, not the solution. To suggest that Android devs write 'once' wheras iOS developers write multiple times, could not be more wrong - they have to write far more, far more messy solutions to cater for the variety of screen sizes and dimensions. It's a complete mess, far more complicated than a fixed ratio.

iOS developers, on the other hand, don't have to do anything of the kind, legacy apps will still work perfectly in proportion on new handsets, and they can add upgraded artwork if required.

You speak like someone who has never developed in his life.

[citation][nom]kartu[/nom]Both arguments are BS.1: Apple didn't do anything particularly smart, nobody is going non-rectangular pixels.2. Screen ratio stays the same for both manufacturers3. You don't need round numbers to scale existing apps4. Android is inherently multi-resolution[/citation]

What Apple did with the iPad, IS smart, and it's the same as they did for Smartphones - keeping the resolution proportions the same. That is one of their key differentiators which helps app developers know exactly what experience the end user will get

The screen ratio does not stay the same across Android phones - and that is the problem. Here are the screens you have to develop for as an Android developer:

xlarge screens are at least 960dp x 720dp
large screens are at least 640dp x 480dp
normal screens are at least 470dp x 320dp
small screens are at least 426dp x 320dp

So scaling apps between these is NOT trivial.

The fact that Android is inherently multi-resolution is PRECISELY the problem that Apple avoided, by keeping the ratios constant on both their smart phone and tablet range.

While idiots such as Vladislaus would claim that having 'close' resolution dimensions between tablets and phones helps, it does not at all. Firstly, the devices themselves don't necessarily suit the same dimensions, and secondly the jump from phone to tablet SHOULD mean that the interface is changed such that it's appropriate for the bigger size.

The original Samsung Galaxy tab has a resolution of 1024 × 600.

Which of the 4 different Android screen resolutions are you saying is close to the tablet one? All of them? rofl.

[citation][nom]Vladislaus[/nom]Apple already uses 16:9 displays on the Macbook Air. Also tablets are consumption devices so it makes a lot more sense to use on a 16:9 display than a 16:10 display. On a normal computer it's the complete opposite.[/citation]

The displays on the Macbook Air 13" are 16:10. The decision to use an 11" 16:9 on the 11inch Macbook Air was mainly to enable them to fit a full size keyboard. It was a compromise, but on laptops this compromise has fewer drawbacks, when compared to tablets.

To say it makes 'more sense' to use a 16:9 is an opinion, and one which you haven't thought through properly. A big big part of the 'consumption' offered by the iPad is the ability to read, and view things in portrait mode. A 16:9 ratio would lesson this experience. While 16:9 may be marginally better for watching movies, that is NOT the primary function of iPads.

So now you're criticising Android tablets? Since they use 16:10?
