I'm sure it was a "mistake". Having a phone that can run Angry Birds (that has sold over million copies) is a nice selling checkbox for MS.
 
Great game on android! Please hurry with full version. I will pay 10 bucks for this kind of game. Its addictive!
 
I don't think they were biting MS heads off. They simply didn't want to have customers assume it would be available when they haven't developed it yet. Thus making their potential buyers angry.
 
well yeah... as they would have to completely rewrite the thing in c#, I can imagine that would be a bit hesitant. certainly wait and see if the platform is worth it. (you will note that all the platforms it is currently on support - to atleast some extent - c/c++)
