FOOTBALL should use video replay for sure. And if only used for red-card, goal and penalty decisions it wouldnt effect the flow of the game at all.

i have always had this feeling that fifa do not want to implement this technology because of the media coverage football enjoys from such incidents; 'mis-understandings' and 'bad judgement calls'. it is an emotional game and having a variable in every game such as a referee just adds to the experience.

what do people think?

[citation][nom]JMcEntegart[/nom]It's highly likely Maradona has someone tweeting for him. Tons of sports stars do. I was just pointing out that not everyone was hurling abuse at Henry.[/citation]
Ok, agreed. But the thing is Maradona doesn't even have a Tweeter page :)
What you said was also reported on football.fr, the most visited football website in France. I don't know where that (Maradona's alleged tweet to Thierry Henry) came from but someone got it wrong. Besides, if I could choose, I personally wouldn't like it to be precisely Maradona who comes in my defense 😀
That's not to say no sports stars back Henry, David Beckham has just come out in support of him.

[citation][nom]JMcEntegart[/nom]No one ever has control of the ball? What? You can't be serious![/citation]

Of course he's serious! Didn't you know? All those "Possession %" graphs that you see during soccer/football matches? They are just a figment of your imagination 😉

Forgive him, for he knows not what real sport is. :)

I love football. And, I'm American. And yes, I mean "soccer".

I absolutely think they need video replay. Things like that which ruin opportunity unnecessarily for teams need to be eliminated so that hard work and talent succeed, and not sly trickery and ilkish behavior.

Besides, Henry ( as talented as he is ) is known for doing slick things and taking shortcuts. His sportsmanship is questionable.

[citation][nom]amnotanoobie[/nom]A little out of topic but,Why do some of the hard core fans of America football ridicule soccer, when "soccer" is originally and aptly named "football". You know because you actually use your foot to move the ball. Why is it then that American football is called as such, when 90% of the time players are holding it with their hands. (Shouldn't it be called handball then?)Just a thought....[/citation]
If you've ever watched a season of American Football, you know that many teams still score most of their points on field goals, which are kicked through the upright in the goal-zone. These are, of course, really crappy reams *cough*Bills*cough*Redskins*cough*Niners*chough*Rams*cough*Lions*cough*Raiders*cough*Buccs*cough*
But you get the point.

no video replay should not be in any sport, ref mistakes are part of the game, sure it sucks for the irish, but it's great for the french, you win some you loose some...get over it. and it's not like video replay has proven to be that effective in other sports anyway

It's bad luck for Ireland, but anyone who watches football knows such things happen on a fairly regular basis. Ireland got a dodgy decision against Georgia a while back, and they didn't offer to replay that one.
I don't want to see video referees- it would slow the game down and, in my opinion, ruin the flow. Ugh. I can just imagine constant appeals for the ref to re-examine this or that, just to break up a promising attack.
Anyway, video evidence is not a panacea- the offside rule has now got so stupid not even video evidence will deal with it...
