Agreed!! They spread like the plague. There are better ways to fight what you believe in, instead of taking down websites and replacing web pages with your message. What they are doing is illegal and your not helping yourself, you are only hurting yourselves and all of us. So, show your faces, stand up for what you believe and if you do that people will follow.

You know, all this honour and standing up for your rights is probably pushed down the media.

You shouldn't take recommendations on how to act from the people you are acting against. When the governement asks you to protest peacefully, they probably don't give a damn and are quite happy for you to vent your frustrations by waving a banner and then going home at the end.

Contrary to belief, Anonymous is a collective few, not a swarm. Not to mention they're cowards hiding beyond a mask, a keyboard, and the internet to "voice their disgust". You start cutting off more heads and the other heads will start cutting themselves in fear. The people that were arrested? That's just the beginning. The more anon pushes back, the faster it'll be for authorities to locate and arrest them.

And yet, MLK Jr managed to get his point across without violent protests.

[citation][nom]dirtyferret[/nom]so you cut off those heads too, these hackers are nothing more then life long virgins living with mom. they add nothing to society. hope they have fun playing the "girl" in jail.[/citation]

It is time we come up with 'serious' punishment for hacking.

If you are facing 5 years minimum in Federal Prison with no option of early release or parole you'll think twice if you want to test your hacking ability against others !

Well, I don't see why Anonymous would retaliate against the FBI doing their job in this case. Besides, Lulzsec pulled a lot of crap on common people too, so I'm not quite sure why they worked together or at least towards similar goals so many times.

Contrary to your belief, there are plenty of Anon guys, not all of which are real hackers, but even a script kiddie can take down a site. There are a lot of script kiddies.

There have been several Anon guys with families and most of the other hackers we hear about aren't even 20 years old, so that's why most of them probably don't, not because they are old virgins in their mother's basement. They add plenty to society. For example, how else would I get up in the morning and amuse myself with government sites and such being down? It's funny. Besides, also contrary to popular belief jail is NOT that bad. I don't speak from experience in a cell, but I've known a few of the guards at a jail.

If you really believe that you clearly don't belong here. So I m guessing you thing all hackers are kids? and they live with Mom? and they add nothing to society? Over half of all the hackers on the planet, real hackers that its are professionals with Day jobs. The whole point of Anon is so that you ll make stereotyping suggestions like the one you made. Hackers are meant to be ghosts. The truth in hacking is if you don't want to be caught cover your tracks and don't tell anyone what you did, much like special forces units. The problem here is you assume to much and clearly on the basis of your post have no idea what your are talking about.

so a 2bit antivirus company that makes a known terrible product was brought to it's knees. After the fact they decide to blame their actions on something completely irrelevant in order to justify their actions.
The problem with Anon is not that they are not good at what they do (because some of them are very good), but that they make high and mighty claims that have very loose connections to their actions. I am all for the Guy Fawkes style 'if the gov't won't listen, then I will make them listen' approach. America was founded on that very idea (standing up against taxation without representation)! But America's founders did things that made sense, and that the general population agreed with, and that made people think about how things 'should be', rather than seemingly mindless and petty skirmishes that don't make a hill of beans difference in the long run.

WTF is the edit button. Based on information I have read from Lulsec getting busted by an FBI informant. Here is a rule to live by. Three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead.

I'm always amused by the amount of Anonymous sympathizers here. Doubly funny since you guys rated the guy down who brought up MLK in reference to nonviolent protest.

"Quick, this guy has a valid dissenting opinion! SHUT HIM UP IN THE NAME OF FREE SPEECH!"

[citation][nom]supall[/nom]And yet, MLK Jr managed to get his point across without violent protests.[/citation]

And yet the various Occupy Wall Street Protests have been summarily stomped out by the NYPD and the UC Davis Police (see the pepper spraying incident). MLK and his supporters were beaten, harassed and many were murdered. The "hippy" protests of the vietnam war in the late 60s turned violent after four protesters were murdered and seven more were shot at Kent State University. Young Iranians protesting for democracy were murdered in mass just a couple of years ago. What was originally peaceful protests in Egypt erupted into violence as well.

If you look back in history, peaceful protests often yields violence from the "establishment" and change, if any happens at all, is glacial. Active protests promotes rapid change, especially if it is supported by the mainstream.

While I do not condone "doxing" innocents, I don't see anything wrong with fighting back, especially considering that the "victims" are HTML files, unsecured databases, unencrypted text files and passwords. If nothing else, even if change does not happen, the benefit is that more attention is paid to cyber-security, which to this point is laughably inadequate in most systems.

What kind of unethical dealings were exposed during the hacks of HPGary and Aaron Barr? Shouldn't we applaud Anonymous for shutting down a child porn ring, doxing its members and uncovering Freedom Hosting which was openly supporting child porn, when the government/police could/would not?

Since Anonymous is a collective rather than a rigid hierarchy, there are certainly a bunch of misguided operations, poor decisions, innocent targets, etc., but there sure have been a lot of revelations that would otherwise have gone unnoticed.

Anonymity on the internet brings out both the best and worst in people, but for every troll, there is a white hat that is out there seeking the truth. This is an ugly world we live in and most of it is covered up, spun or otherwise sanitized for public consumption, but that doesn't mean that the ugly still isn't there.

You can't be serious - you can't honestly recognize the benefits to society to have this kind of a balancing act to show our deeply "corporatized" (not a real word, but it should make sense) governments that their schemes and lies can now easily be communicated to the people. Just look at WikiLeaks - the guy is charged with rape...rape...how many politicians rape and never inasmuch as get a slap on the hand, how many diplomats enjoy immunity - anyways, way too many thoughts I can't write coherently. All in all, get off your high horse and recognize that there's no "honour" in governments anymore - it's all about money and power. We don't have the money, but through knowledge we have the power.
