Any reliablity issues with a dsc-v1

Hi,

Guy at work is offering me a Sony DSC-V1 to replace my Sony P-32 that
has a dead flash unit. The guy takes care of his stuff, has way more
cameras than he needs, I think he is a camera junkie.

Anyway, US 275 for the camera, extra battery and case and 64mb mem
stick. Seems like a okay deal. My only concern is how reliable has
the DSC-V1 been in the field. My P-32 lasted 14 months before the
flash gave the E:91:01 error. At least the V1 has an external hot
shoe.

Thanks,

W

22,000 pictures with mine over one years time (mostly with a Sunpack Flash on
the hot shoe) and I was REALLY pleased with it.

It was VERY fast for a pocket sized camera, and it did VERY good color.

I sold it a few weeks ago for $300 with a couple of 64mb chips and a 128mb
chip.

The ONLY drawback was a fairly short battery life.

You will want to get a spare and keep it charged. (about $30 from Sony.com)

In case you wonder why I sold it...it doesnt do RAW only jpg & tif. I intend
to replace it with the V-3.

That is very good to read about.

What kind of shot to shot times do you think you were getting?

It comes with a spare, and I keep an inverter in my car for all my
digital power needs.

I noticed that it didn't do raw but then my P-32 didn't do tiff.

This digital stuff is neat. I seldom get out my film cameras anymore.
I wonder if a digital back has ever been made for a Cannon F-1?

I thank you for your positive review.

Very short "shot to shot" times (though I never seriously measured)

If you are getting a spare, I recommend the stand alone charger for that
battery, I dont remember the price but Sony has it.

Like I said, I was REALLY happy with the camera, and found it easy to use.

One thing I didn't mention... outdoors in sunlight you'll want to use the
optical view finder, the LCD is small and not particularly bright (a shade of
some sort will help though.

The guy backed out on the deal. He decided that he didn't want to
sell it after all. Problably didn't help that we both got our 5% of
annual pay performance bonus today. I have a DSC-V3 on order. I have
a feeling that the V1 would have made me very happy.

I thank you again for the feedback.
