Is there any way to turn this off? as i can't stand it, I've set it to use both ears in windows sound options and set to stereo, yet i still get the effect when npc's are to the side, the volume goes really quiet in one ear, is their any way around this? or do i need a really old headset that doesn't support this?
This happens on consoles also and cut scenes, can this be turned off? if not a new headset is needed.

Well, that's kind of what surround sound is all about: simulating a 360 degree environment so that you can tell what direction the sound is coming from, in order to increase immersion (obviously, not everybody enjoys that). Anyway, you might be able to disable virtual surround sound in Windows itself, since I don't think the headphones come with any software to do that. Find the little speaker icon that appears in your system tray and right click it. Click on "Playback devices" then select the correct device and hit the "Properties" button on the bottom right of that window. Should pop up another window, go to the "Enhancements" tab and select/deselect the "Virtual Surround" option.
