Has anyone done this? I'm going to get a transcend 250gb m.2 ssd, but heard that disassembling the 17" version is rather hard. Once I do get it in, can I just straight up drag 'n drop the windows OS files from the stock HDD to the SSD, reboot and change boot order to SSD, and voila?

Or do I need to use partitioning software?

hello there i am not familiar with this model but when you do get it taken apart and put in the msata drive you will need one of 2 things you will need an original OS disk or you will need a piece of software that can clone your hdd drive to your msata drive which would require you taking it out of your laptop and hooking it up to another Computer to do soo hope this helps
