Apologies and a follow-follow-up

My unfamiliarity with the protocol of this group has educated me too
late that it will not print entire e-mails. If there is anyone not
sufficiently fed-up with me and would like to chat, my e-mail is my
last name followed by my first initial @washpost.com.
Thanks again.

Actually, I'm not fed up with you at all. Usually this type of appeal to a
newsgroup comes off as spamish at best, your request actually seems legit.

However, I'm going to have to go with what another poster said. I cannot
comply with what you are asking because 1> I don't fit it and 2> I don't
think anyone else does either. As was noted, once you get TiVo (and learn
how to use it) there IS no set schedule...that's the point. If you were to
put my viewing habits (and I believe this would represent the majority of
TiVo users) next to a broadcast schedule, it would look like this:

WB: Me:

Smallville Wed 7CT Whenever I feel like it.

Fox: Me:

Simpsons Sun ?? Whenever I feel like it.

See the point? I'm not even certain exactly when Fox shows The
Simpsons...I just know it is sometime Sunday evening. I may watch the show
later Sunday evening. I may watch it Monday morning. I may even wait
until Tuesday morning, depending on my schedule that week.

You say that "The crux of this story is that viewers are no longer bound to
broadcast schedules and have used TiVo and other DVRs to create their own
broadcast schedules, unshackling them from the tyranny of the
networks."...and that is exactly it. I am unshackled from the networks, I
have created my OWN network. It has no schedule...it shows what I want,
when I want. THAT is where I am now, and where I expect others to be in a
few years. It will evolve slowly, and will be fought tooth and nail, but
eventually the networks will be removed from the equation entirely. If I
miss a show, it will be downloadable for a reasonable (and that's
reasonable to a real person, not some coke-addled executive or lawyer) fee.

I live in Maryland and read the Washington Post. For those who are not
familiar with the paper, I just wanted to note that Frank Ahrens is as
legit as they come.

*nod* He's a real reporter, it's a real paper, he's working on a real story.
Weird how you can usually tell when it's real. He replied to me in email,
seems to be a nice guy and if anyone would like to help, I encourage them. I
just can't cause I don't have a schedule.

I looked for him at washingtonpost.com and didn't find him under business.
I just did a search and did find some articles.

Aww, don't say that out loud, for criminee sakes. ;-)

My wife commented that we were actually rewinding and reviewing a good
commercial the other day.... pity there are so few.

I _almost_ said "and the only commercials shown are ones I like" but decided
to leave that part out. B-)
