'Some people pay Corsair a nice upmark on what amounts to "pretty" but useless heat spreaders on their memory modules, pay 100% more for a GPU that performs 30% better, spend 200$ on a kilowatt PSU they don't need, just to be sure, buy and operate case lights 'cause they, well, look pretty, spend over 200 bucks on an aluminum case for the, cough, build quality, invest in 3-monitor setups so their "productivity" multi-tasking IRC and WoW goes up..

Capitalism lives off people buying sh*t not with their brains, but with their guts.'

First of all - you're obviously a cheap-skate. Trying to penny pinch on every little thing, believing you know value better than the next man. Take your stupid logic to the extreme, get someone to GIVE you their old 386 PC's - you can't beat FREE. Any upgrade from that would be infinitely more cost, but not infinitely more performance.... so illogical according to you? Yet I bet you paid for your PC. Hypocrite.

OH WAIT, there are some people who actually have a USE for the extra power that 30% can provide (it may save them 4 hours per day), they have a REQUIREMENT to not take any stupid risks with a PSU given the relatively small outlay to be sure and the relatively large outlay if they get it wrong. Or, they may be the people who recognise the obvious fact (as proven in various studies) the productivity DOES increase with multi-monitor setups, and aren't so cheap that they end up suffering themselves.

You are entirely bitter about people having nice things, it seems. Get over it.

All that said, your whole analogy is flawed anyway. Products like the iPhone, Macbook air etc are uniquely positioned, or at least they were when released. The iPhone4 offered the longest battery life at release, the highest resolution screen, all with an app-library which no other company could match. The Macbook Air remains pretty much unique in its industry. And furthermore, as a whole, the build quality, reliability and performance of the macs and their OS is highly regarded. That is a real, appreciable and LOGICAL reason to buy their products. Don't hate people just because they can afford to buy them.

And I say all this on my Windows 7 Dell laptop - I'm not an Apple fan boy - I'm just not so insecure I hate anybody who appreciates them.

nice one 🙂 , you`ve really made that fool loke like a hopeless childish idiot with his desperate commets.

Wahhh... Waahhh....

Aww cupcake,

I hope you don't cry like that in front of your lady friends...

It's called Capitalism - These guys produce a product and it sells... They make money, and one of the ways you can consistently make a good product - making sure your suppliers have a steady flow of parts - Auto industry does this all over the world. When the price of parts or worse supply fluctuates it disrupts production with catastrophic results... Bad for business...

Don't worry if one of the Android producing companies can get their head out of their ass and produce something that is innovative instead of trying to one up Apple they'll be in a position to do the same... Competition is good for Capitalism and for the consumer!

Get out of your mancave, stop playing video games, watching porn, make some money and spend it where you want, that will teach Evil Evil Meanie Apple!

[citation][nom]pelov[/nom]competition?! what?!EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!also i hate people who buy apple and the company as a whole.[/citation]

Cupcake...

Jobs has a reality distortion field... You must be living in one yourself...

Have you checked out the price of the most recent Android Tablets, It was on the Tom's "News" a few days ago... Considerably more expensive the iPad... Actually most of the worthy Android tablets are the same price or more...

hugs and kisses

If you would read and understand what I wrote, you would notice, that my post was actually a defense of people buying Apple products.

It's a defense against 'cheapskates', although I didn't resort to name-calling, but it's totally understandable that you did. And why do you assume I can't afford a Mac? I actually can.

I lined out that people regularly pay more for additional values like esthetics, social recognition, etc., things that aren't linked to the primary function of the good they purchase.

But you go ahead and attack my post like a rabid dog because of something you thought I wrote.

This article is BS. All suppliers have supply chain capacity agreements with their customers, which prevents them from selling, lets say, 60% of their production to any single one of them. You'll see there won't be any shortage no matter what quantities Apple, or any other, intends to buy.

Also note that DigiTimes does not disclose their "sources". Impossible to know where they really pull their numbers from, other than some vague and unnamed "sources" and "iPad suppliers".

Apple products tend to cost more because...

The spend a boat-load in R&D and recoup that in their products. Do you think the development or their touch-technology (hands down the best in the mobile touch-based market) or OS X was cheap?

Windows 7 costs what, about $75?
OS X costs $25

Yes, OS X is locked to their hardware (not entirely, e.g. hackintosh), but they don't make money on there operating systems like Windows does. They make money on the hardware. Thus, people don't understand paying big $$$ for comparatively cheap hardware. It costs money to produce be innovative. Not just to design something (like touch based screens), but to design it and advertise it in such a way that it appeals to the simple, non-nerd public (people who don't read Tom's) who see its ease of use and application.

Just my two cents.

How is it possible that you can't keep people like this from posting on this site?

Except because I can't tweak things to optimize my product (like overclocking, for example), I can't get the full performance out of my overpriced components. Apple's great for people who want to brag about their shiny Mac and iPod. But for me, it's a waste of money and a pretentious status symbol. (FYI: I can afford Apples--but I don't want one)

Hey Cupcake - have you ever used a mac? "Same functionality:?

OS X isn't just pretty pictures and kittens, it works, and gets the f*ck out of your way... Unlike Windows - I've had to "help" 4 friends this month because their Windows machines took a dump... I have an OC PC at home with Windows 7, and I also have a Macbook Pro... This isn't my first new pony; guess what? My first computer was a Sinclair and then 8086, and I have used MS products all the way through Windows 7, I also do IT work and I love not having to worry about things like .dlls, and .ini files, and a ridiculous bandaid called a registry... When that gets corrupted it's a mess... Have you ever uninstalled an app in windows, you know will all the .dlls? Yeah, it sucks.

I can send emails, do programming, think, play and not have to worry... it just gets done... That's why I love this OS... I work with Windows 7 and appreciate it for what it offers, but baby it's not the same... So OC your components, enjoy it, but realize 99% of the population would rather get that email sent without worrying about their computer taking a dump and get on with their lives...

hugs and kisses

Well I suppose they have to get rid of their competition some way & to buy out these touch panel displays while leaving their competitors short of these same screens is one good idea for them to use...

[citation][nom]eklipz330[/nom]WHOOOOOSHHHHHHthat's the sound of sarcasm flying over your head.[/citation]

Sarcasm? I think you need to dust off your dictionary if you think that was sarcasm. No, it's just a convenient excuse for idiots to say what they really mean then back down when someone calls them out on it. Oh I was just kidding. Right on...

Re-read my post. I said for the non-nerd (don't overclock) general public who want something that works without tweaking or fixing or running anti-virus and spam removal software on a daily basis. I have nothing against custom built PCs. I have a custom built PC that is overclocked (CPU, memory, videocard, etc), however my macbook pro is 5 years old and still does everything I need without having a single problem over that 5 years (I even put 2 solid state drives in a RAID 0 in it).

And... I don't feel pretentious for buying something that works.

nothing is free, the cost of the space which that 386 sits, the cost of the power it takes, etc...

Windows is a pain and for ME that's worth paying half the price with better performance. For a lot of people, it isn't worth it.
[citation][nom]jkluesner[/nom]And... I don't feel pretentious for buying something that works.[/citation]Apple does something useful and I suppose it doesn't make someone pretentious for buying an apple--it just means they have the cash to blow to afford a product where a single manufacturer makes all products for it--assuring complete compatibility. And my PCs work perfectly with no tweaking (aside from what I choose to do for my own amusement), but that is only because I learned how to work them when I didn't have the cash to blow on an Apple.

I changed my own brakes today and saved $138 dollars or lost a bunch of my time--it depends on how each person looks at it.
