Apple headphone mic doesn't work

I recently purchased the y splitter adapter for the apple headphone microphone to work but they only worked for a slight bit. I believe the problem lies within the setting, does anyone know which settings I should be using for the headphones in order for the mic and headphones to work. Thank you in advance.

I don't think there is a setting where you can actually dictate whether or not the microphone is on, I'm pretty sure it's either always is, or it turns on automatically when it is needed. Did you drop or crush the mic by any chance? Maybe there's dirt or something in it that's blocking the sound from reaching it? Try cleaning it with a cotton swab or something, that could help. If you sat on them or crushed the remote part, you may have damaged the microphone. In that case, you'd have to buy either another pair of Ear Pods or another headset with the inline mic.

Yes, those are the adapters that I am using. The headphones work fine but the microphone does not work.
