[citation][nom]Stoogie[/nom]Apple, you cant patent shapes.and also:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg[/citation]

http://www.uspto.gov/patents/resources/general_info_concerning_patents.jsp

Based on the patent system, you could actually do it as part of a product.. Not the shape itself mind you, but your use of the shape, as part of a complete product. Read up on subjects before commenting.

As for the rest of the Anti-Apple hate.. Grow up people.. Apple is doing what just about every other company on the face of the planet does.. If they see you have a similar product, they look into the possibility of legal action. If they find they might have a case, they then balance the pros/cons. For example, would they make money off the case, or would it serve only to set precident for the topic/product/etc.(I.E. making future cases, if they occur, more likely to be quicker, cost less, and more successful.) or if the case would just be a PR disaster. Companies, however you would like to deny it, are only after the sweet-spot when it comes to technology.. Offering the least, at the highest price the market will sustain with the highest margins.. And almost without fail.. don't give a rats ass after that point.

So, instead of hating on Apple like children, why don't you all stop complaining on this venue, and go complain to your respective congressmen and women? Go do something beyond Pro-PC trolling. Because based on Apple's earnings.. Everything you all have done...To date.. has obviously not affected them at all. Or do I have this all wrong.. and you all are just trollin? 😛

[citation][nom]bgaimur[/nom]Actually, my Epic 4G is better than the iPhone 4. My brother has one, and side by side, you'd pick my phone every time.[/citation]

Sir, no I absolutely would not. No no no no.. While your Epic 4G might be better than the iPhone 4... my iPhone 4 is better than your Epic 4G. Which also, I guess makes my iPhone 4 better than all the other iPhone 4's.. Interesting. ;P I love stating opinions as fact! So much fun! lol

But seriously.. I wouldn't use it even if someone gave it to me for free.. However.. I would certainly sell it on ebay/craigslist for the caaash. ;D

How is apple still in business??? I know there products are good But is a mac that much better than a PC when they cost so much more and I know I like my epic 4g way more than my friends Iphone. So I dont get how they can price gouge the way they do and make themselves look like a$$holes and STILL sell boatloads of product lol. I read this article somewhere els and a guess apple talks about the screen being flat and black being part of the LOOK that they have patented WTF I guess all phones should pay apple for there "innovative" flat black screen. LMAO

[citation][nom]captaincharisma[/nom]wow you hardcore apple fanatics are entertaining. you must have a shine of Steve jobs right by you in your parents basementthis lawsuit is ridiculous. if apple wins they could sue everyone else if there web OS or device just looks 1% like an ipad/iphone. Its companies like apple that stop innovation completely[/citation]

Love your train of thought. If it wasn't for the iPhone, you wouldn't even have Android. Also, we wouldn't have a tablet market now either.. Or at least, we wouldn't have a booming one.. but a miserably tiny one that has failed time after time, year after year.

But then again, I suppose Apple had nothing to do with that now did it? Tool.

@scuba dave: Apple is still in business because of its retarded clients who don't care what kind of hardware they get in a computer/phone as long as it "just works". And of course we're trolling Apple, because we hate it! The best thing we can do to stop them is to troll and to open people's eyes... For example, why the hell would anyone spend $1800+ on a MacBook Pro if there're laptops from other brands that cost $600 less and have better specs? Or why the hell would anyone buy an iPhone 4, if Galaxy S is more powerful, offers you better OS and costs less? The answer is: Apple marketing brainwashes people, making them believe that you shouldn't bother with the device's hardware as long as you can access Facebook and Twitter from it. No iPhone will ever replace my Galaxy S, because... believe it or not... unlike iPhone, Galaxy S can actually use Bluetooth for file transfer! =) So the point is to spread awareness. If everyone who trolls Apple would actually show their Apple fanboy friends IRL the advantages of NOT using Apple products, Apple would die within weeks.

@scuba dave: Are you suggesting we should be grateful to Apple because we wouldn't have Android without iOS? Now you have to grow up! Android might have been triggered by iOS rise, but it's certainly based on totally different idea, and that is flexibility.

As for tablet market... to hell with it! I don't see why anyone needs a tablet, provided we have netbooks. That's exactly why other tablets are not anywhere as successful as iPad: people don't really need tablets, they just want more iStuff, because they've been brainwashed. Have you seen these lunatics who actually sell places in the line for iPad 2 to each other? It's like a cult! Have you seen their faces when they unbox their new iStuff? They're completely crazy! I guess the day Steve Jobs dies will be like a new 9/11 for them...

Normal people are not attached to the brand, they only care for the product itself. I, for instance, used to buy Nokia phones because they were the best for a while (3660, N95). Once they failed with that WP7 transition and lame hardware, I had no problem switching to Samsung. And if SGS II will be outrun by some other product, I'll switch to that other product. The only thing that matters is value for money. Period.

Just to let everyone know I just got a patent for breathing air .... you all better prepare to get SUUEEDD!

What a patent troll of a company, I think it finally took the seat from RAMBUS as the biggest imaginary patent troll.

just do what typical american companies do, raise the price of parts for apple to recoup the loss if they lose. always pass the buck of the cost for your losses to your customer, that's how it works.

No, Apple is not in business because of retards. What a childish notion. Apple is in business because their are people out there, thank god, that are not like you. People, while in general, are very similar to other people, do fan out on the edges. And while Apple fans towards "experience" being the most critical element, PC fans tend to fan towards "hardware specs!!1!".. And we all know how correct PC fans can be.. specially when ya'll tout such things as the infamous "Megahertz Race", etc. Yeah.. Based on that old PC-Thought process, we would and should be at like what?...30GHz by now? ;P But no, seriously.. lol.

And to be clear, when you say "we" are trollin apple because "we" hate it.. You mean PC elitists are trollin because PC elitists hate it. Just society in general... like Apple. The look, the feel, the experience. Because after all, if something has an absolutely fluid experience and feel to it whenever you use anything designed for it... Does it matter if it doesn't have all the Giga-Mega-Hertz that some other product does have? No, no it doesn't. And that's where Apple products shine. What they do use, works every well, and without fail. And to top it all off, it all has a look that many, many, many people love. And just because you attribute no value, or at a minimum, less value for those things than other people do, doesn't make them wrong and stupid, nor does it make you right. It makes you entirely different fucking people. And for the record, the majority of society likes Apple too. Which, of course, would mean that the Anti-Apple crowd is more of a fring movement.. Kinda cult like even. And cults aren't good. 😛

Now, of course some people don't like how expensive Apple products can be.. Hell, I wish they were cheaper.. because if they were, I'd have a whole flock of Apple products.. Because I certainly like the look, feel, and experience I have had with them.. However, even though I can't afford them.. I'm not gonna cry about it. I'll continue using my self-built i7 Win7 GTX580 Rig that I'm also very fond of.. And I'll always use what I think is best, in the budget I can afford.. And it's pathetic that people very much like you stand there and judge me for it. That's what makes people similar to you and your mentality.. Tools.

Grateful? Oh GOD no. Well, not unless you buy a product that you like that was in some way influenced directly by Apple(kinda like how you should be grateful to your grandparents.. They certainly didn't make you.. But they did, kinda, have a role, lol. So take your "Now you have to grow up!" And smack yourself.. Because now, you actually are being a tool. A stupid, stupid tool. And of course, as I am now beginning to fear your ability to understand.. Let me clarify my use of grateful. I don't mean bow and worship and grovel before His Holiness Lord Jobs! lol! That always makes me laugh. Such childishness(or jealousy? Hmm) invented by a some PC elistists.. I mean it in a "Hey, thanks." A head nod. A silent acknowledgement of the fact that they did play their part.

And as for your "to hell with it".. As I stated before. You don't understand and obviously don't need one. Other people do have a use for it.. So why don't you leave them alone? Or is your online bully complex that severe? And thoughts on why none are as successful as the iPad.. Well, I think we can both agree... You most certainly are not an expert on the matter. Now are ya ;P

As for your "selling spots in line" comment.. I've seen the same thing for the PS3 launch.. NEXT!

And as for your "have you seen their faces?" comment.. Oh. My. God. Are you.. like.. Suggesting.. That people.. could actually *barf* enjoy.. opening.. new.. things.. kinda.. like.. what.. the.. whole.. world.. does.. on... christmas?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!??? Your pro man. Off the deep end for sure but definitely pro.

But in all seriousness.. There are some people out there that ARE crazy cultish about Apple AND PC.. And they are off their rockers.. But how about lets not judge the whole, based on the acts of the few. And if you think value for money is all that matters.. I respect your views, although my own views don't mirror yours unfortunately. I just ask that you respect ours.. Whether you agree or not.

Lol. Read the link I posted earlier.. Can't patent something that's been out for more than a year.. So now that I know your a liar.. I'm gonna sue you for pain and suffering I experienced as a direct result of your online lying and terrorism. Now gimme your wallet.

Best thing about Android really is the flexibility and less strict OS. Apple has always had a tight grip on its OS and hardware. Nothing is perfect but no one can deny that Apple revolutionized the smart phone market and most forget how it was before the original iPhone came out.

Its awesome that Google dev'd a smart phone OS to compete with iOS because the end result are better products. Also I am all for USA companies doing well so to me people that bash innovative companies within their own borders are really somethin...lol. Just wish our US companies would build more of their products in the USA (MADE IN USA) but profit is king 😛

[citation][nom]amk-aka-phantom[/nom]@robochump: Are you mad? Android doesn't copy iOS in any aspect, thank God! That's exactly why I hate Apple fanboys: how much thinking does it take to "come up" with rounded square icons? Firefox 4 is also using them - is Apple gonna sue Mozilla as well? And it doesn't take millions to develop a graphical interface for any OS... it just takes a few designers and some time, no advanced research needed. IMAO, Apple will have to sue everyone, because HTC Sensation and LG Optimus 2X also look similar to iPhone. BTW, iOS is the best? ROFLMAO =) For a loser who's afraid to tweak some settings, maybe (that's also the only reason why people jump to Mac from Windows). And what "best parts" did Android copy from Apple? Personally, I don't even consider how GUI looks to be a part of the OS, because in a proper OS that can be changed within seconds.[/citation]

How many people need to tweak something major?!? Normal average smart phone user doesn't need to break code to do stuff that less than 1% of user geeks do. Mostly just surface stuff or some GUI changes to make it more personalized. Also do you know how much $$$ is needed to develop? Sounds like you think everything is put together with no thought instead of actual development to get the GUI the most user friendly and easy to navigate. I guess you think that takes no money to dev??? lol Jokes on you then and good thing you are no developer! How many phones before the iPhone used specific touch gestures to manipulate the GUI......NONE! I do agree that Apple is a little money hungry but if you dev good products then you deserve to charge a lil more for a superior product. So I am all for Droid or Win7 Phone to challenge iOS!

@robochump: WP7 cannot even challenge Symbian, so I'm skipping that. As for Android - it won already. All you Apple fans keep blabbering about how "What Apple has, works perfectly" - but Apple products have way too few things. How about USB-on-the-Go? No. Does iPhone have HDMI output? Not that I know of. Memory cards? No way! So what's the advantage?

Now, I'm not saying that development doesn't require money. But do you really think that developing new GUI icons takes millions of dollars? If yes, I suggest you get serious help.

And money is not a problem for me... it's just that if I spend it, I want to get something out of it. So why would I pay anything for a phone that requires me to jailbreak it before I can even use it properly? And even jailbreak doesn't add the necessary hardware (mentioned above, for example).

@scuba dave: This is not about MHz/GHz race, it's about Apple products not having half of flexibility that other brands offer. iPad 1 didn't even have USB. Seriously, I don't even see why a phone should have a processor faster than 1 GHz, anyway... I'm talking about other features here. I don't see why I - or anyone! - should buy a phone which loses to nearly all its competitors.

What's even more surprising is that you have a proper PC and still like Apple. Don't you understand they want to suppress the liberty of building custom PCs as such?! The less people know of how a PC actually works, better it is for Apple's business. Because 90% of Mac OS X users are scared losers who ran from Windows because they don't want to learn how their operating system works and how to adjust it to their needs. After all, Macs "just work"! Lol... I wanna see what happens when more viruses for Mac OS will be written... poor Mac users will burn, because they'd have no idea what hit them =)

"Well, not unless you buy a product that you like that was in some way influenced directly by Apple" - sure, just that, in turn, Apple didn't invent the smartphone concept on the first place. So no thanks to them. I actually liked T9 phones way more =) It's just that they were kinda limited on screen size...

"Hell, I wish they were cheaper.. because if they were, I'd have a whole flock of Apple products" - typical Apple fanboy mentality. Why the hell would you need a whole flock of iStuff? Oh, wait, I forgot: Apple never puts all features in one device, that's innovative and stylish! Instead of one device carry 3: iPad, iPhone and iPod! And don't forget your MacBook.. because connecting iStuff to a normal computer (in case you want to load some new content on your device) is a pain in the neck. That is so cool! I mean, who the hell would want to have EVERYTHING in one device? That's just plain boring! =)

And about "experience" that Apple offers... well, the experience that other products offer is a whole lot better. And you noticed right, society likes Apple... because society consists mostly of retards. I tried asking some people why they prefer iPhone over Android... heard a lot of BS. "iOS has a lot of apps!", "It's fast!", "It's cool", "It has everything". Not a single person referred to iOS-specific function that they like... and you know why? Because there are none! Almost everything that iOS can do was done on Java even on non-smartphones YEARS ago (except touch-screen). What, are you saying that some stupid Facebook app or a widget is the reason to buy a phone? Wait, that IS what most of Apple users say... Well, I guess I was right - society that likes Apple IS retarded.

@AMK - lol. OMG...you are hilarious!!! So your saying that anyone that buys an Apple product is either a retard or scared losers that run from Windows....haha! Then you talk about Apple fan boys when in fact you sound like a Windows/Android fan boy. Get a grip.

Its a fact that anything that is popular must be bad and it is soooo cool to go against it. Also do you realize the businesses are meant to make a profit? Typically any first release will not be perfect but must be a very good product! And new release with improved or added features will ensure more products sold. Apple is far from only company doing this BTW. Apple not only vitalized the smart phone sector but also the tablets (which may be a fade but currently very strong) as well as the mobile music device the iPod (which a large percentage is fading into iPhones and iPads).

So AMK I refuse to listen to your rants against Apple since you are too biased and resort to name calling those that buy Apple products. And you are far from the only one....lol.

[citation][nom]robochump[/nom] Typically any first release will not be perfect but must be a very good product! And new release with improved or added features will ensure more products sold.[/citation]

Of course, I agree to that. But the first releases by other brands normally have every single feature possible at the time of the release. Are you saying Apple couldn't put the USB port on the iPad 1? What I've seen from, for example, Asus, Samsung or Dell, is: the product is released, stuffed with every interface/feature possible, and the new version comes out once Intel and nVidia/AMD release new CPUs/GPUs, and a few new things are added (USB 3.0, etc.). And that brings them very good profit, too. What Apple does is convincing everyone that their stuff is innovative, while in fact it doesn't have s%&t. And then the new version comes out, still underpowered but better, so it's "super-innovative"! You keep missing that point.

I personally like the idea of Mac OS as a simple OS for the people who don't care for more than simple entertainment on their computers and want everything to "just work" (yer there's Debian for that, too!). But simpler stuff normally costs less, not more. I understand that Apple has to make up for its low PC market share, but if they'd be a bit smarter they'd put the prices down, because it's true that many people love Apple and would get a MacBook if they could afford it - that way Apple would sell more at a lesser price and still get the same profit.

What I do hate, however, is the arrogance of Apple users - they're just so sure their iPhone is unbeatable in every aspect, it's just disgusting.

Calling me a fanboy of anything is wrong. As I said above, for me it's only value for money. If iPhone SUDDENLY would sport the best hardware and connectivity interfaces for a reasonable price, I'd gladly buy it! (Then jailbreak it xD)

And, dude... are you kidding? Apple vitalised the smartphone sector??? It changed it - that is valid, but not vitalised! There was a whole lot of innovative phones before the iPhone. Basically the only thing that iPhone has brought that was really innovative was the touch screen, which allowed the phone to stay the same size as all the other phones and at the same time have a larger screen. But then, again, there were sliders, which I knew many people favored much more than touchscreens (and still do).

iPod is nothing more than an mp3 player with an Apple logo. Yes, it's good, it's shiny, it has good sound quality (like any other good mp3 player), but it doesn't stand out anywhere. As far as I know, the iPod doesn't even have a voice recorder (at least my mother's iPod nano doesn't) - an unforgivable fail for an mp3 player. And you need stupid iTunes to load the content on the iPod. Apple didn't create the mp3 player concept, it just brainwashed everyone to believe that theirs is better.

You must understand I'm talking out of experience here, I tried all that iStuff, it's good and "just works", but every time there's something very important missing in it which screws up the whole device. For Macs, it's lame outdated graphics (best MacBook pro is still running some underclocked AMD Radeon 6000 series with 256MB... lol!). For iPad, it's the lack of interfaces. Same goes for iPhone, plus the requirement to jailbreak it to use it fully. For iPod, it's the iTunes and the fact that it doesn't stand out. (My iRiver E10, for example, has everything what iPods of that time - 5 years back - used to have plus the inbuild TV remote... epic win for a smaller price.) That is unacceptable for the "premium" device image Apple wants everyone to believe in.

Coming back to the topic - I don't think Apple has any reasonable background behind their lawsuit against Samsung, except that they're damn scared of the Galaxy S II launch in May, because it'll make iPhone 5 cry in shame. What I would do if I were Apple is to make their new iPhone unique once more by adding something which no one else has - that would make sense. Of course, filling the lawsuit is far easier... that's why I also laugh at Nokia after their lawsuit against Apple.

Hmm, I remember my Windows Mobile 5 PDA 5 years ago also had a few rounded square icons! Maybe Microsoft should sue Apple? =)

And about going against "popular"... well, Nokia and Microsoft also used to be quite popular, yet I never said anything against them, because their products actually were good. Same goes for PS3/Xbox 360. They're popular, and they deserved it. Apple did not.

I used to have my icons in a 4x4 grid on my PC desktop. Was also using a custom set, with ROUNDED CORNERS. When Apple came out with the iPhone, I decided to let it go. I hoped my miraculous, unprecedented invention of the Rounded Icon Grid should be shared freely and used for the betterment of all mankind. I was wrong, a foolish FOOL, to think such power wouldn't corrupt someone as weak-minded as Jobs.
