Some one who shall not be named managed to trade mark the phrase, "You're Fired" which is about as silly as this, maybe a little more silly.

If you're talking about Donald Trump, then I don't think he was successful because Sir Alan Sugar was doing it first in UK Apprentice (which came first), and Vince McMahon has also been doing it for 10 years as part of his on-screen character in WWE.

Oh, and I don't get why all the hate for this trademark thing - it's a marketing slogan and they have every right to trademark it, especially as Apple come under a lot of fire from pretty much every semi-sensible person in the world, so NOT trademarking it would lead to a number of derogatory and parody derivatives.

Hell, just look at the variations you guys have put here already.

I'm waiting for Google to trademark "and so does Android".

Tom's should run a competition to find the best alternative to "There's an app for that." Ought to be a hoot seeing what people can come up with because then every tech site known to man will run a piece on it and totally rub Steve's face in it. Maybe "There'll be a prize for that..!!"

Marked down because you don't understand parody etc is allowed even on trademarks.
Marked down for not understanding that we're not only complaining Apple, we're also complaining about the system that awarded them the copyright.
Marked up because I clicked the wrong damn thumb and tom's won't let me switch.
Marked down your next post to try to make amends.

I agree, it's a slogan. I don't have a problem with it being trademarked. They invented a phrase, and it's not something anyone would ever say in normal conversation. It's not the same as "You're fired," which is extremely common. And Trump did NOT trademark "You're fired." He attempted to and he failed.

All flaming aside, why the hell did it take a year to trademark that?!

How many tax dollars were wasted to trademark this common phrase?!?!

You're holding it wrong? There's an app for that!

Hmm... as I was saying it, I actually had the thought that it could be a real idea. An application showing where to put your hands on the phone in order to have a less crappy signal.

Please, any person who believes that he or she would be damaged by the registration of this mark may oppose registration by filing a notice of opposition with the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and paying the required fee, within thirty days after the date of publication, or within an extension period granted by the Board for filing an opposition.

The notice of opposition must include a concise statement of the reasons for the opposer’s belief that the opposer would be damaged by the registration of the opposed mark, and must state the grounds for opposition.

If you don't, then please stop complaining.

They've been using it all this time and didn't have it trademarked? Man, wish I woulda known that. Could have trademarked it myself just to spite them, then sue them for using it 😀

I could swear that the saying actually didn't originate from Apple itself sure they began to use it but I could swear I heard it from people before the advertisements ever did. I could be remembering a bit wrong however. Either way I guess it doesn't matter as your not required to be the inventor of the saying.

Anyways is there a app for Flash Apple? No? Way to not live up to
your newly trademarked slogan.
