The Kinect is the next mouse and keyboard and something like it will be on every computer in less than 5 years. There's a comment above joking about "getting a workout" while editing on Final Cut Pro, but that's no joke. Every FCP user can immediately see how Kinect would be an insane time-saver. Good editors struggle with moving between a mouse, which is an inefficient tool, and the keyboard, which just is not designed to do many of the activities necessary in editing.
sitting at my laptop and shifting between keystrokes and kinect motions could be an ideal interface. I'm sure apple saw the vision and is working on something similar. Their secrecy and anti-competitive stance is something I doubt they'll ever over-come and represents the single strongest opportunity for someone to out-perform them. Jobs steals ideas from others (ie PARC) and admits that he's "shameless about stealing ideas and making them better", so why can't he just focus on the "making things better" piece, instead of trying to lock-up intellectual property and stifle competition. Apple got where they are from making things better, and they'll fall from where they by shifting their focus towards protecting IP and DRM, which is beginning to define them.
Free-flowing ideas is the future, and other organizations (ie Google) represent that ideal much more than Apple.
