Are USB Ports Powered

Excuse the dumb question please. I recently added an external USB powered
fan to draw hot air out of the entertainment center tower that houses my MCE
2005 setup and I want to do the same thing on the other tower where the TIVO
and A/V/DVD/VCR components are as they are getting fairly warm too. Are the
USB ports on the TIVO, although not active, still powered so I can plug an
external fan into one of them?

(DirecTV TIVO Series2 (Phillips 704) unhacked but for a large hard drive
installed with InstantCake.)

It should work okay... try it.
But why not use a regular DC fan? They're cheap...

Guess I am a Plug 'n Play guy! I'll try the USB fan first. If it doesn't

Well...guess what? The USB ports are not powered. Got it all installed and
plugged in and nothing.

While still not used for connectivity, the USB ports should be powered
by the version 6.2 software upgrade (the rollout of which is in
progress).

The new software also includes significant speed enhancements,
"folders" and an LBA48-capable kernel (for full support of hard disk
drives with capacities greater than 137 GB).

USB ports wil supply a maximum of 500mA at around 5V. If more current is
drawn the port will power down.

Well, I don't have the 6.2 upgrade yet. So, I have the MCE in the other
tower powering both exhaust fans through a USB cable. All is well and both
towers seems to be very cool now. Thanks for the help!

Relatively few people do, but it's been reported that the rollout will
be greatly expanded later this month. I hope to receive the upgrade
soon, as I've waited years for the features that it adds.

Actually, most applicable DirecTV DVR models in service already have
downloaded the version 6.2 software via the satellite stream. Its
installation is triggered by the first outgoing telephone call placed
after the unit has been added to the upgrade list.
