Astro A40 (No Mixamp)

so i am looking to buy a new headset but the only headset i would trust is astro, i have heard they are amazing with the mixamp but i can't afford the mixamp + headset so i was wondering if they are worth the cost without it? I would like to know some other questions also, so 1 - they sound good with just stereo? 2- do they last a long time if you keep good look after them? 3 - is the mic good quality and does it break after a little while of use (have seen a few broken mic's)?

In my opinion, the whole reason to buy Astro's is the mix amp. The headsets are fairly good but for that price I'd rather buy some good cans if I'm only doing stereo.
