Hello there

I would appreciate if you could help me out with this.

I have a dilemma. I have seen two notebooks from Asus 1001HA for 250 euros and 1101 HA for 299 euros and I still do not know which one to choose. The thing is that I do not really care much about the price in this elections. So I would love to hear your opinion.
I have to say that I am going to use this laptop neither to play videogames nor to run Matlab. I am going to use it like a light tool that I can carry in my bag and avoid having to put up with the heavy laptop that I had before which weighted 2,9kg without adapter. That excessive weight was the reason I want a new laptop because it was hurting my back.

I also wanted it to have Winxp installed to avoid the possible pitfalls that Microsoft might have included in its new Win7 because as you know, it usually takes some time until consumers test Microsoft software for free, well, paying for it actually. You can see the example with Win XP. And of course I wanted to avoid the horrible Win Vista.

All in all my main doubts to choose are these: 1101HA has a bigger screen 11.6' than 1001ha with 10' and 1101HA has 9 hours of battery life (1,3GHz atomz n520 with 6 cells battery) while 1001HA's battery just lasts 5 hours (1,6Ghz atom n270 with 3 cells battery).

On the other hand I guess this 1001HA asus is obviously quicker (1,6GHz) against 1101HA with 1,3Ghz.

According to:

Hi Cortina Maxi

I have an 1101HA running Wn 7, which is fine and good as a netbook. Very good on flights, busses, or the passenger seat!

The smaller screened 1001 is just too small, although the latest version is the same CPU spec as the 1101, I find the 11.6" only just big enough to not be annoying.

If you are worried about 50g or whatever, then you can pop the battery (get the 8 cell one it lasts longer) in your pocket.

I work on a IP and web based company portal and i frequently run 2x firefox with upto 30 tabs, spotify, skype, wordpad, notepad++ concurrently and it does this all fine, only crunching a little bit when using a second monitor.

( Put up powerpoint or word or Open office- it will crunch and crash and you should maybe use Google Chrome which is a less CPU intensive browser- even FF is getting "bloated")

I even run GIMP on mine which is a shareware photoshop type thing, and it is ok.

But, file handling is painfully slow : is this win 7 issue on some hardware??

Finally the click bar at the bottom is tediously not ergonomic and while the track pad is excellent, the pinch zoom and touch scroll seem unreliable.

Recommended though, get the 8 cell battery with bluetooth 1101HA.
