Got the laptop yesterday and spent some time on Bioshock Infinite after getting all the initial driver updates and restarting and what not. I installed MSI afterburner so I could monitor my frames/clocks and such and all things were working as they should.
I tried gaming on battery this morning and something very strange occurred. During gameplay I noticed that the frames would build to there max (60) then suddenly plummet to around 10 fps and it would build back up to 60 fps then plummet again. I changed the power setting to high performance on battery through the Power4Gear Hybrid tool. Still the same problem of framerate fluctuation.
I took a look at the log inside afterburner and discovered that the gpu clocks (both memory and core) were fluctuating along with the performance
core clock: 50 -> 800 -> 950
I know this explains the drop in fps, but why would the machine fluctuate this way? Even if it were on low it would still have a steady flow of power just lower.
