I am deciding between these two laptops above. I need help deciding between performance with a dull design (Sager) or coolness with less performance (Asus). Here are the specs from my configuration at Xotic PC and the pros and cons:

ASUS G751JY:
I7-4710HQ
256GB SSD +1TB HHD
Nvidia GTX 980M 4GB GDDR5
32GB 1600MHZ RAM
XOTIC PC AFTERBURNER FX
$2701
Pros: Really cool looking design, great cooling, sweet LED lights.:
Cons: only 4gb vram, only 1600mhz ram, laptop CPU, 256gb SSD, overpriced.

Sager NP9772-S
I7-4790K
512GB SSD + 1TB HHD
Nvidia GTX 980m 8GB GDDR5 WITH OPTIMUS
32GB 1866 KINGSTON HYPER X CL10
IC DIAMOND THERMAL COMPOUND
XOTIC PC COPPER COOLING HEATSINKS UPGRADE
$2573
Pros: More video ram, better clock speed ram, desktop CPU, more SSD capacity, fits budget.
Cons: Heard that Sager laptops have keyboard ghosting problems, not as good cooling as Asus, laptop design is UGLY AS HELL COMPARED TO THE ASUS.

Solution
Even though minding the Sager's Cons it seems to have much better specifications than the ASUS and even $150 Cheaper and it has a desktop i7-4790K which are Over powered

In my opinion I would save the $150 for the Sager alot of people have Sager and have not heard too many complaints

Asus. They're the only brand of gaming laptop that I've ever bought, and never let me down.

4GB of VRAM is more than enough for a single laptop screen. The only way 8GB would be beneficial is if you were to be hooking your laptop up to a 2160p TV. The 4790K would be beneficial if you were doing video editing or rendering, but you'll get the same gaming performance.

Thanks for your suggestion, but is my current specs on the sager enough to run Starcraft 2 at max settings ove 60FPS?

Thanks for your suggestion, but in terms of storage is the 256GB on the Asus more than enough?

I own a 256GB SSD, and it's enough room for your OS and your top 5 favorite games. Most games have quick loading times, so put those and all of your software on your 1TB HDD, and put your favorite games on the SSD.

As far as your 60 fps goal, keep in mind that Vsync is going to limit your frame rates to 60, so you won't be able to go over that unless it's disabled, which results in screen tearing.

Thanks for your fast response. Is it better to get 16, 24 or 32 gb ram for the Asus?

Although I'm not sure how much RAM your simulations will run, I'm confident that 16GB or 24GB would be enough. 32GB is overkill for any laptop. I honestly can't think of a single instance where 32GB is needed.

Yah GTX980M can definitely get above 60FPS easy but its not really any use unless you were playing on 144HZ or something like that, the monitors like many others has visual capabilities of 60FPS

Would overclocking the 4790K make a huge difference then the 4710HQ?

Not in gaming. The only time overclocking a CPU really affects gaming is when the processor has some sort of bottlenecking on the performance. Overclocking your CPU for gaming with a high end i5/i7 only results in a few frames per second.

Take a look at the gaming benchmarks at the bottom of this page.

Overclocking your CPU will only affect things like benchmarks, dealing with RAR's, and rendering.

Thank you, is the Asus G751 up gradable in terms of the CPU and the GPU? Because that is a huge factor for my next gaming laptop.

Upgrading the RAM, hard drive and M2 slot are very easy.

http://rog.asus.com/375732014/g-series-gaming-laptops/gallery-g751-upgrade-guide/

Upgrading the CPU and GPU? Technically, no. Asus makes a custom MXM socket for it's processor, so the only way to upgrade it would be to find a similar Asus laptop with a better CPU and solder it in yourself. The GPU doesn't have any sort of custom socket, but you'll have to practically tear apart your laptop in the process, while voiding your warranty.

Thank you for the knowledge. Because the Asus has better cooling with the duel fans, if i use an external laptop cooler for the Sager will that and the Sager fans combined reduce the temperature as cool as the Asus when without the cooler?

Probably. Laptop cooling pads work very well.

Really, you can't go wrong with either. They're both beastly laptops.

Sidenote: If you're thinking that the Sager will let you upgrade the CPU sometime down the road, you won't be able to. The 4790K is the last processor for the LGA1150 socket. After that, it'll be Skylake. Didn't know if that affects your decision, but just wanted to bring it up.

Thanks. I am not really concerned about the CPU but I found out that you are able to upgrade the Sager GPU at the cost of your warranty but I honestly do not care about that. Still deciding between these two though.

That really is tough. Flip a coin?

They're going to have identical gaming performance. Go for the one that's most visually appealing to you. The Sager isn't as bad looking as I was expecting for having a full 1150 socket motherboard.
