Asus laptop black screen

For the last year my laptop screen has often gone blue/green and the other day it went completely black (although the backlight appears to be working)
I've plugged it into an external screen and it works fine I've also tried a replacement screen but had exactly the same problem!

If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated!

Thanks the reply jaro, on an external monitor the screen is clearly visible with no problems at all, which through my reading indicates not the GPU however I know zero about this stuff"
