I have a x501a Asus laptop which has a broken screen. You can't see anything on the screen, so I connect it to my TV. But one day on start up, it's in one of those pre-login start ups, where it's something about the computer. Since it's in that start up, the screen doesn't project on to the tv, and I can't tell what the computer is asking of me. And whenever I press any key on the keyboard, it shuts down the computer. How can I reset my computer without seeing the screen, or better yet, press the right keyboard buttons to bypass this?

Solution
Try connecting to an external monitor (not a tv), while the laptop is off, turn the monitor on and then turn the laptop on. You should then be able to see what the message is.
